As I was updating the maps on my unit, Garmin express said my internal memory was full. So elected to put the maps in the sd card.
After having done so (or thinking that I had done so), I plug the unit back into the pc.
BaseCamp shows TWO (City Nav North America 2024.1) map files on the 590 in the internal storage. This is puzzling to me.
Furthermore, if I open file explorer and look at the sd card, there appears to be nothing on it.
Can someone shed some light on this and tell me if it’s normal? It doesn’t seem right.
I would love to be able to free up space on the u it’s internal memory, but I’m not sure how to do this.

Re: Cleaning out internal memory on 590 & loading maps on sd card
Two maps is now normal as the map is so large it needs to be split in two. FAT32 will only allow files up to 4Gb in size. The EU map has been split for many years.

Re: Cleaning out internal memory on 590 & loading maps on sd card
Thanks for the link. My sd card is 8mb.
It still looks like the map set was imported into the hard drive of the gps unit, not the sd card.
I read through the link you provided.

Re: Cleaning out internal memory on 590 & loading maps on sd card
If the 2 maps are in the internal memory then they fitted, does seem strange that Express implied one would need to go on the card but then it may have been able to delete some files to free up sufficient space.
Your free memory is very small and could cause issues in future. If it were me I'd move the JCV folder to the card, that is covered in the link I pointed you at earlier.
