Anyone know of Corridor H around Parsons WV?

Post by Peobody »

Hi All,

I am planning a route through West Virginia. Basecamp is routing me along Corridor H around Parsons. Neither Google Maps nor Mapquest show the leg of Corridor H in the image below. Internet research indicates that it was supposed to be completed in 2022 but I have not been able to confirm that it is open. Does anyone know? I'll be coming north out of Elkins with a destination for the day being Punxsutawney, PA. Getting off US 219 for a bit is appealing if it is possible while staying on paved roads.

Thanks Stu. That is OpenStreetMap, Google Maps, and Mapquest. I thought that Garmin CN NA NT 2024.10 must have included it based on the 2022 target completion date but CN NA NT 2023.20 routes over it too. Good thing I verify Basecamp routing with Google Maps. Basecamp thinks it is a fast road too. It took me three waypoint placement attempts before I got Basecamp to not route over it.

BTW, OpenStreetMap does a really nice job of showing it under construction. None of the others showed it except Google Maps satellite view which showed the construction.

I had done a bunch of web searching but did not find anything dated within the last few months that was specific to the stretch that I was being routed over. I just found a development status map dated 8 Sep, 2020 that shows it scheduled for construction 2022-2024. Let's hope that CN NA NT 2024.10 does not include all roads under construction with a projected completion date in 2024.

On another note, I was thinking maybe you're taking this way too seriously :) . U-turns and rerouting on the fly is part of the adventure!

When are you going to ride WV? I plan to be there in June and will be riding most of these routes:

I will be riding through there in mid-May. The trip, with wife on the pillion, will be from Charlotte to Western NY & PA, four days riding around that area, then back to Charlotte, off-interstate as much as practical. It's interesting that one overnight on our return trip will be in the Holiday Inn Express in Elkin, WV, one of the bases in the New England Riders trip you linked to.

If I was riding solo I indeed would be less serious but I have learned that 'adventure' can turn ugly real fast when riding a loaded Goldwing with my wife on the pillion.

That is what I did. Once I got up there it was very surprising to find that the stretch of Corridor H that BaseCamp was routing me on was only in the grading stage.
