I'm hoping I don't stir the pot with my suggested theory on this....
Basecamp uses a flat speed value based upon defined road type, and yes that is adjustable in BC, but it does apply this value to the entire length of said road type.
XT has more updated speed zones that I'm presuming it does utilize for calculating route timing.
So if you have a "secondary" road that BC thinks is only a 45mph zone, yet local authorities have the zone set at 55mph, I'd think the XT would calculate at the 55mph rate and give you a faster route time for the same distance traveled.

Re: Nav vs BC timing difference
I believe that the speed and road classification data is contained in the maps, not the Basecamp app, so the behavior should be similar. BUT, it's also possible BC is coded to ignore or apply a simplified version of that data, so your theory may be correct.

Re: Nav vs BC timing difference
The Activity profile in Basecamp contains a configurable average speed setting for different road types. So the question then becomes whether the average speed options are being used or whether the maps provide the speeds for calculating time.
