Sharing route between devices failed

Post by Peobody »

I ride with a buddy who has a BMW Nav(?). During a lunch stop on a ride back in November, I proposed an alternate way home. I was part of a route I had stored in my XT. I used the share function in the XT (bluetooth) and it transferred the route to his Nav surprisingly easily. Last week I tried to do the same thing and we could not get it to work. I think we tried 8 times during which my XT only detected his Nav twice and both times the transfer never happened; just the spinning circle on the XT. We both disconnected our phones from our satnav to remove them from the equation. Does anyone know what can affect the sharing feature like this?

I can't think of anything.

The gpx file is saved with a specific name in the internal storage / gpx folder. Dont remember what, but it is very obvious when you see it. SHARED DATE TIME seems to pop into my head.

You could use that to find out if the issue was with the transfer or with the subsequent loading of the route.
Try with another Zumo?
Try sending it the other way.

I've only ever tried it a few times to see how it works and it has never failed. You obviously need two units to do it, and I've just given my 595 away. I wasn't using it, and my brother needed one. Easy decision.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

The one I was trying to share with him was 120 miles and contained around 12 waypoints. I forgot to mention that one of the things we tried was him sharing a route to my XT. That was successful. It was a similar sized route and took only a few seconds to transfer. We the let the spinning circle go for many minutes. IIRC, we received some sort of failure message only once in all of the attempts. I don't have a clue how to troubleshoot the XT not detecting, or detecting but not sending to his Nav.

I have only shared a few routes a couple of times between XT's 590's and 595's

Some are hit and miss but all send eventually

Thanks Stu. I am sure that he and I will have an opportunity to try again.
