Express updates only seem to be issued to allow use with new devices (that I don't use) or to fix new bugs caused by previous updates. I can't recall an update that actually improved the program.
I update Express only when it is required to update maps or firmware. I might update earlier if Garmin ever revived Express' ability to install the Basecamp map on my D: drive. Manually moving the map with every update is a nuisance.
