I know these issues are user errors. I am on the road now, and could use some help getting the most out of my Zumo. So here are some questions.
1. I live in Canada - Cannot search on postal code....how do I set the unit to Canada
2. The unit will find cities, but not addresses in cities. So, I can find Quebec City - but not an address in Quebec City
3. A few weird things have happened....the Zumo gets stuck portrait instead of landscape
4. Right at the time when a turn was coming up the Zumo screen went dark, after running for hours, it just went dark, not off, just dim.
5. Where do you purchase maps for other countries? I will need maps for Central and South America
6. Can anybody point me to videos showing how to set up a map on the internet, then load it onto the Zumo
7. Does tracking happen automatically? Can I review where I've been? Can this data be used on google maps?
Thanks.
Few things not working
Re: Few things not working
I dont have all the answers, but I'll respond to things I know something about.
Tracklog:
Make sure you enable 'Travel History' in the settings. See app.php/ZXT-P92
You can get to the tracklog by connecting the XT to a computer and look in the GPX folder. See app.php/ZXT-P27
As an alternative I recommend using the Track recorder. It's on the main screen. The advantage is you'll only get one (1) track of the section you're interested in. 'Travel History' will create (sometimes a lot) of track segments, that you will have to join together.
Using Garmin Drive App, you can share the tracklogs wirelessly and send yourself an email, or upload it directly to Google Drive/One Drive etc. (Watch out: Dont connect to Garmin Explore unless you really need it!)
Once you have the tracklog you can upload it to Google Maps. See viewtopic.php?t=1965 This document is written with Routes in mind, but you can also use tracklogs. Tracklogs dont have to be converted to KML first.
Maps/Address Search:
You mention a few issues with searching addresses. For addresses the XT uses the installed and enabled Map. (See Settings/Navigation/My Maps) I cant be of very much help, because I have the CN Europe Map, and you probably not. But in Europe Address Search works. What i'm trying to say: If it doesn't work start with looking at the maps
For maps of Mid/South America you could contact Garmin, but they'll charge you I fear. You can also look for OSM maps Problem is to find a g ood source, that has the map style you want. (E.g. Hiking, Cycling, Motor cycling etc.) If you dont mind getting into the details look at MKGMAP. https://www.mkgmap.org.uk/ But it will require to write some scripts, download additional software (like Java), and LOTS of time.
I remember @lkraus posting a few URLS where you can download OSM maps. See viewtopic.php?p=16904&hilit=osm#p16904
Good luck

Re: Few things not working
I will contribute my 2 cents where I can. Keep in mind that I am in the U.S.
1. I live in Canada - Cannot search on postal code....how do I set the unit to Canada
IDK
2. The unit will find cities, but not addresses in cities. So, I can find Quebec City - but not an address in Quebec City
When you click "Where to?, the upper left button shows the city you are in. Click that and then "A Different City". Once you have the city selected, click the "Address" option in which you will be prompted for house number and street. That search will be in the city you selected earlier.
3. A few weird things have happened....the Zumo gets stuck portrait instead of landscape
I have not experienced this.
4. Right at the time when a turn was coming up the Zumo screen went dark, after running for hours, it just went dark, not off, just dim.
Low battery? Is it charging ok while riding?
5. Where do you purchase maps for other countries? I will need maps for Central and South America
IDK
6. Can anybody point me to videos showing how to set up a map on the internet, then load it onto the Zumo
IDK. I carry a laptop with me on which I have BaseCamp installed. That is the only route creation product I have used.
7. Does tracking happen automatically? Can I review where I've been? Can this data be used on google maps?
Well covered by @FrankB.

Re: Few things not working
1. If you are using CN NA NT 2024.10 it already contains all of the US, Candaa and Mexico. I don't believe it is searchable by postal code.KRTW wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 3:33 am I know these issues are user errors. Thanks.
2. Are all the CN NA NT maps checked in Map & Vehicle --> My Maps?
3. No idea.
4. Make sure your bike mount is making proper contact.
5. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/c/road-maps/
6. Not sure what "set up a map on the Internet" means. Use Basecamp for best results. Other map programs can work, but you increase the complexity of the process and chances for errors.
7. See previous answers by others.
Hope this helps.
