BC Route to XT Not Showing Up?
BC Route to XT Not Showing Up?
I'm using a MacBook Pro 2021 M1 Max. Finally got my Zumo XT recognized in BaseCamp making sure only one app is opened at a time a while back.... Thanks to this Forum! Now, I'm trying to upload a route to my SD Card using BC... No luck. I tried by uploading to Device > SD Card and I tried the drag and drop method. I then tried uploading to Device > XT. I unplugged the XT each time to check for the route to import. It finally did by using the last instance Device > XT... so I thought. On the XT I received the pop-up, New Routes Found Import to Trip Planner. I selected Yes and proceeded to Saved and all that shows up is the waypoints, not a Route. As for trying to upload to the SD card, I never received the import pop-up on the XT for importing. I'm familiar with using Garmins & BC & MS, 595LM, 276c and now the XT. If anyone can steer me in the right direction, I would sincerely appreciate it. Thank you. Ray

Re: BC Route to XT Not Showing Up?
First, when you transfer to the XT you only need to transfer the route, not the waypoints or the contents of the entire list. The waypoints are included in the route. This applies regardless whether you are transferring to internal storage or the SD card. That said, if you want waypoints available in your Saved list without importing their route then you need to transfer them.
When route are transferred to the SD card, the XT will not automatically prompt you to import them. Open Trip Planner then tap the hamburger (three bars top left) then select Import. All routes on the SD card will be listed. Keep in mind that they remain on the SD card after import. This is good in that you can keep your list of Saved Trips lean by deleting ones you don't immediately know that they are available for import at any time. It is bad because it is up to you to keep track of the ones imported, otherwise you will end up with duplicates in Saved Trips.
FWIW, when I want to send a route to my XT I right-click on it, select "Send To..." and then select the destination in the resulting popup window (the XT will show up as a device at the bottom of that list and offers either internal storage or User Data on the Memory card)

I have never transferd just Waypoints or care to. At least intentionally......LOL. My transfers have always been 100% routes with waypoints.

Ok... I went into Apps > Trip Planner as you suggested and the route was there. This is a new hoop I didn't have with the other Garmins. I do have one duplicate since I dragged and dropped one on the SD Card in BC and re-sent another in BC by Device > SD Card I don't see the one I directly sent to the XT in BC.... Where is that? Also, can't duplicate route and/or all the routes be deleted by using a SD card reader and deleting them?

I will give that a try....Sounds like a much easier way to go about it.
Thank you for steering me in the right direction, I sincerely appreciate your help. Ray

There are a number of ways to accomplish this. The drag and drop method is often referred to on this forum. You can do it using pull-down menu options too although I don't recall the details offhand. You will understand it better once you get it working. You can then seek out the different ways of doing it to determine your preference.

Re: BC Route to XT Not Showing Up?
I did the drag and drop within BC which did work quite fast and easy. Just didn't know I had to jump into Trip Planner to find it. Also, there must be another way to clean up an SD card other than jumping into Garmins hidden world of files.... At least I'm hoping so. With that being said, I still can't find that route on the Garmin drive after going through BC Device > XT. Thanks for the help, appreciate it.RayPeobody wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 7:44 pmGood luck.PaulaRay wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 6:49 pmI will give that a try....Sounds like a much easier way to go about it.Peobody wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 4:07 pm FWIW, when I want to send a route to my XT I right-click on it, select "Send To..." and then select the destination in the resulting popup window (the XT will show up as a device at the bottom of that list and offers either internal storage or User Data on the Memory card)

Re: BC Route to XT Not Showing Up?
There is. With the XT connected you can delete data that is on the SD card from within BaseCamp in the same way that you would delete BaseCamp data. It is in Memory Card > User data.
If you don't know about the behavior of the temp.gpx file then please read about it here. It could explain why it is missing. app.php/ZXT-P25

Re: BC Route to XT Not Showing Up?
Ray,
This is far from the only way to get a route from BC on a Mac to the XT, but it has (for me) one big advantage: it deals with just one item at a time, making it much easier to find and diagnose any glitches. If you move/copy/drag/send more than one route from BC, they get stuffed together into one big GPX file. If you instead EXPORT just one at a time, it simplifies things.
So here's what I do: create one or more routes in BC. At this point, no need for your XT to be connected at all. Select one route at a time and use File --> Export Selected User Data to save them, individually, anywhere convenient on your Mac. Now you have two options. First, quit BC. 1. Pop the SD card out of your XT and mount it on your desktop. Drag the exported files to the Garmin/GPX folder on the card. 2. Or, connect your XT and using Android File Transfer, drag or copy them to that same folder. Then use Trip Planner to make them active on the XT.
I set up more than a dozen routes for my recent 3000-mile West VA ride this way and it did not take much longer than using BC directly to the XT and I had none of the issues you & others have encountered.
Hope this is useful,

Thanks for all the great info.! I love simplifying things if at all possible, especially when it comes to Garmin.

Your explanation makes a lot of sense in the way you save and export your routes. I would send / save them to a seperate folder, perhaps on my desktop for organization and name the folder My Routes.
Both methods sounds like it would be an easy transfer. I'll give both a try to see what works the best for myself.
