My XT "forgot" where Home is

Has any one had this happen? My XT "forgot" where my Home is located. I set this months ago when I first got the GPS and selecting Go Home has always worked. Until today. It said I had to enter my Home location. I tried a long-press reset. Still no Home location. I re-entered it, but wonder why it lost this information.

Any ideas?

Nope, no updates, no adding or removing Favorites, nothing: the unit was fully powered off for almost 2 weeks and when I powered it up to go home, this happened.

Not a big deal to re-enter my Home, but concerned that this is a symptom of other issues, which given an upcoming 6000-mile trip, I don't want to discover far from home.

Hi Dan, If I'm correct in your workflow you put the SD card in your Mac, and that's how you transfer your routes, waypoints etc. There's nothing wrong with that, and I dont want to change that. But.....

Because I also dont like the idea of being 'out there', and losing my waypoints, routes and tracks I always save my GPX files 'somewhere in the cloud', usually in Google Drive, but you can use any service you like. Should something happen to my XT and data is lost, I can always transfer the GPX files again with the Garmin Drive App. And no, it's NOT connected to Garmin Explore.

I'm sure you already knew this, sorry for being such a 'smartass'.

Edit: And to answer the initial question. I delete all data when I start a new trip, so 'HOME' is never/seldom on my XT

Can you tell me what the pros and cons are of erasing all data for each new trip? I like keeping some "permanent" Favorites on the XT, but if there is a big benefit to erasing, I'd be interested.

If you are going to keep copies of your gpx files in the cloud, be sure to put them in a folder that automatically downloads an actual copy to your phone (not just a link). You want to be able to access the files even if you ride out of cell range.

I only keep routes, tracks, and points on the Zumo that I expect to use within the next few days. "Home" is the only exception because it gets frequent use. I find it easier to keep the data to a minimum than to keep scrolling through the selection menus.

To be clear. A trip can consist of multiple days.
Pros:
- It's easier to delete all tracks, trips, saved locations then having to select the ones you want to delete. And find afterwards that you deleted some that you want kept.
- Like Lkraus I find it easier to not having to scroll thru long lists.
Cons:
- You have to have all data you need in the GPX files, in the cloud. But you can think of that as a pro also. It's a check that your GPX is complete.
