Copy Basecamp settings to new PC????

Post by Peobody »

I am getting reading to install Basecamp on a new PC. I have used its internal Backup to back it up to a flash drive but now I'm wondering whether this backs up the configuration settings as well as the data. What can you tell me?
If configurations settings are excluded, please let me know how I can copy them to the new PC.

Thanks!

The answer to whether the backup contains configuration settings is... No!

At some point I will set the two PC's side by side and set the Basecamp options in the new one to match the settings in the old one.

It does not take long to reconfigure Basecamp but there is an interesting file called user.config that might be worth copying from old to new PC.

It is in this hidden folder :
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\GARMIN_Corp\BaseCamp.exe_Url_urbejbdz42c555ix3xqbitecusqt0tuj\4.7.5.0

The alphabet soup before the version number looks like it might vary from user to user, but that path should get you close.

Let us know if it works.

If it doesn't, damage reimbursement will be limited to the price of the advice.

I had finished configuring the new Basecamp before I saw this post. Thanks for it though. It might help someone else.
I went looking for such a file in the AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp directory but never dug around in the GARMIN_Corp one.

I did some quick experimentation and thought that was the correct file, but further testing showed that it is is either the wrong file or only one of multiple files. I could restore some settings with it but not all. No time currently to test further and I don't plan to change PC's anytime soon.

Some settings are in the Windows registry. Like the identification of your Zumos. But some will also be specific to the computer - where things are stored. It would probably be quicker to set it up again than to mess with the registry.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

I was able to duplicate the configurations of multiple browser by copying the profile associated with each from the old PC to the new one, and for some apps by copy a config file. Basecamp's options are so limited that I thought surely they would be stored in a file. Apparently not.

Thanks for your efforts guys.

My Basecamp database is in Dropbox, so I can use different computers. I seem to recall I don't have to do much setting up when accessing it with a new computer.

The challenges are that you want the configuration identical to the old, and the tedium of turning off map display features. I spent a lot of time turning display features off to reduce map clutter. It would have been nice to copy those options to the new installation rather than having to go through that process again, matching what I had done on the old install.
