Zumo 660lm NA not recognized by Garmin Express

Post by storepeter »

I moved from USA to Denmark with my bikes and a Zumo 660. I cannot get Garmin Express to find the Zumo, I tried on Mac, I tried on Windows, I tried older version of Garmin Express under Windows, but the Zumo is not found.

The Zumo knows where it is, but the original North American maps are missing. There is no map info at all.

I have factory reset the Zumo, but no change.

Beside the missing maps, everything seems to work as expected I can go through all the secret menus, and things looks normal. The software on the Zumo is Ver 5.10 from 2014

I have downloaded an OSM map of Denmark and saved it to a sdcard, I did initially have a problem seeing the OSM map, because I hadn't unzipped the file I had downloaded, once I did unzip it and placed it on the sdcard in /Garmin/gmapsupp.img I got the maps of Denmark as expected.

When I plug the Zumo into a Windows computer via USB, I can see the OSM map file as F:/Garmin/gmapsupp.img, while I keep getting messages that the E: drive are not inserted. So it seems like the internal drive is broken.

I have found a lot of information regarding unbricking of Garmin GPS-es on

I will document my steps on my blog:

I don't have an answer for you since I have no experience with a 660, only a 590 and an XT.

I can think of couple basic things you might check.
Be sure the SDcard is formatted as FAT32.
The file size of the .img file must be less than 4 GB.
My OSM maps are in \zūmo\SDcard\Map\.

You might also try the instructions at Open Map Chest, they seem to work for most.
