Newbie question re: USB power
Newbie question re: USB power
Forgive this newbie question but Is there a way to power the 550 via USB connector so that it boots up in GPSr mode (as opposed to 'connecting to PC' mode)?

Re: Newbie question re: USB power
If you have the correct type of USB cable the unit should initiate startup into USB mode.
The unit will not "run" on USB power alone if that's what you are asking.

Re: Newbie question re: USB power
I don't know what GPSr mode is but with the XT, if I connect it to the USB port in my car using a cable that is capable of data and charging then it will boot into "connecting to PC". It will not do this with a charging-only cable. This is the one I use in my car. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B096ZC2VFH

Re: Newbie question re: USB power
Some car radios can play music stored on a USB stick or phone, that is, they can transfer the files. These will look like a computer to the XT because they are trying to establish a data connection. If the car has more than one USB socket, try a different one, Otherwise, use a charge-only cable with this type of USB port, or use a USB adapter in the cigarette lighter socket.
