As I've mentioned before, you lose everything if you swipe the Tread app off an iPhone. It will not sync and you lose weather, traffic and connection. I’ve just checked again so bang up to date information.

Incidentally, a new XT2 software update has just been installed 2 minutes ago which does not change this.

If I ever have to use any of my older pre-built routes, my plan is to check they become compatible with Tread or send in gpx1.2 if that fails. All that you say seems correct but I’m still concerned with the here and now.

Does anyone from Garmin read this I wonder?

No, they do not. I have pointed Garmin support here. In reply, they told me that they do not follow any user forums.

This is why I keep posting PLEASE tell Product.Support@garmin.com.

@smfollen @jfheath I plan to contact Garmin once I’ve got all my ducks in a row. I want to be able to provide suggestions or solutions along with the problem.

Thank you @Regain. I greatly appreciate your posts and efforts on this but Garmin already knows the solution. They need to fix their software so that it honors, rather than changes, user input. They also know the various workarounds. Garmin support and I have thoroughly discussed the issue in 35 emails so far (yes really 35).

I know that @jfheath has also had discussions with Garmin on this issue ... and we all know he is meticulous in his testing and documentation.

I have also pointed out to Garmin support that the failure of their software to honor shaping point user input is probably the root cause of additional issues such as points moving when changed from via to shaping, etc.

What support still needs is to hear from many more of their customers that they are frustrated with this problem. That will get the issue a higher priority so that it will be addressed.

As I said in a previous post
There are a number of posts on this forum complaining that Garmin support doesn't listen. Garmin support is telling us that more users need to speak up so that they will listen. You don't have to be an expert - I am certainly not. You don't have to have all the answers or extensive tests. You just have to tell Product.Support@garmin.com that the Tread app changes existing and imported routes because the Tread / Explore sync ignores shaping points.

Thanks @Regain & @smfollen

In the meantime, while Garmin are perusing an answer another thought popped into my head. I hate it when it does that.
So I experimented again.

I imported a gpx file into the Tread app on my phone. That synched to the XT2 and the XT2 did not alter it at all. Neither did the Tread App.
In fact I tried all sorts of things - I couldn't get the route to jump onto the motorway.

I do note that when the route is first recognised by the XT2 - that the mImported byte is set to False. (ie RUT proof).
I don't know if it is significant, just thought I'd check it.

I repeated an earlier exercise with a GPX file imported to the XT2 from the SD card - the route originally creates on the Tread app and exported as a Tread file. That was synched to the Tread App and recalculated to move the shaping points and route. The modified route was then passed back to the XT2.

So (first impressions after just a few trials)

Routes that are imported using the Tread App to the phone - Seem to remain as planned.
GPX files placed on the SD card (even if originally created in the Tread App) and imported to the XT2 get synched to the Tread app on the phone.
The Tread app alters them ignoring the shaping points, and sends the modified route back.

I wonder if the Tread App will import a Basecamp route?.

ps
On Transfer to the XT2 the imported trip is set to mImported = False
The Route remains intact. It doesn't change.

pps
Synch from the XT2 to the Tread App willt ake place even if the phone is in standby, even if the tread app is swiped off the screen.
It is the synch from the Tread app to the XT2 which cannot take place when the tread app is swiped off the screen.
Nevertheless - te tread app changes the route when it has received it. The XT2 cannot get the altered route if the tread app is swiped off the screen.

ppps Copied Routes - which makes an exact copy of the original, but set the mIpmorted byte to False. Also behave badly and have their route changed.

Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

@jfheath I think you just may have been lucky that Tread liked your GPX route. I’ve tried it many times now and like I said, hit & miss. It all depends whether Tread agrees that your route is where it would go. Hence me having to add extra shaping points to my route.

I have just tried exporting a route from BC as a GPX file then emailing it to my phone and opening the attachment with the Tread app. It worked perfectly. It was the same route that has been failing by putting it onto the SD card. I just changed the name.

Send me your route as a gpx. Pm me if you want let me give it a go - see if there is something else that is interfering with it.

What maps are you on. There's a recent update, and I haven't installed them yet, but I can do.

On the off chance you haven't run across this, some folks are reporting that the latest update and Express will not allow installing the new map to your computer at the same time as to your GPS. I first installed only to my XT, then un-mounted it, rebooted, reconnected it to my Mac and ran Express again, telling it to install just to the computer and it went just fine. IOW, the workaround is to have two separate sessions, with the GPS first.

@jfheath was that meant for me? I don’t actually have a ready route for you as all my recent ones were test routes and now deleted.

Tread will most often accept a route but are you comparing it (in Tread) with your track? Does Basecamp send the track at the same time? Without that facility, I’d have set off merrily then gone down the wrong roads.

I’m fully up to date, maps and software.

Yes, sorry @Regain I forgot to quote.

I often find that getting Express to do more than one thing at once results in coming back a few hours later only to find that nothing ahs been installed. One at once works best. I usually do the computer first 'cos it takes less time and can then go away and leave the Zumo to it. But I have to rememebr to do it to all 4 Zumos.

OK - well if you come across one that causes you issues, then send me a copy I'll see if mine repeates the same issues - and if not, I can try to find out why.

No I wasn't comparing it with a track. My testing route on this occasion is floowing the A6. The M6 runs parallel and crosses over the A6 - between Kendal and Carlisle. Shaping points are on the A6, the Tread app moves the route and shaping points onto the M6 - at least in part.

I haven't tried to import a track into the Tread App. Basecamp allows you to create a track from any route. You can then select them all together (Tracks, Routes and saved Waypoints) and any number of these and export them as a single GPX file.

I like to keep things straight forward when testing - it makes it easier to identify the source of the problem.
