As per title , when looking at MAP and clicking layers and collections , my collections are not alphabetical . This frustrates me because I have lots of collections .
If I go to explore and look at collections; they are all correctly alphabetical and have options re how to sort them. Nothing corrects the issue in Maps.
Garmin Explore website has all of the collections , correctly alphabetical .
Any ideas to sort this ?

Re: Tread ; Map Collections not alphabetical ?
I'm not sure what you mean exactly.
Collections can be organised - as you say - there are three different sort orders. That is in Explore -> Collections.
Settings -> Map DIsplay -> Map Layers -> Collections (on Map) Seem to be ordered alphanumerically with 'Unorganised' and 'Last Import' always at the top.
But Settings -> Map Display -> Map Layers
No - there doesn't seem to be any way of sorting those fixed items.
Maps in Settings -> Map Display -> myMaps are grouped by country and within each country's display seem to be hap-hazard. I can't see a way of ordering those - but its not much of an issue. The biggest list I have is for the America maps - 11 of those. BUt turning the display portrait, it shows 7 of them on one screen.
So that is a response, but I am not sure if I have answered your question !

Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !
Links: Zumo 590/5 & BC . . . Zumo XT & BC

Ah.
Ok - I misunderstood your use of 'Collections'. Collections are a feature of the XT2 (and XT1) which allows routes, tracks and waypoints to be grouped together under one name. But maps cannot be put into such a collection. Nor would you want to.
However when looking at the maps section of the Zumo menus, you get the opportunity to make your named groups of data (collections), visible or not. So that the map is not cluttered with information relating to routes that you are not using today.
Although you can sort most lists, the list of installed maps under 'my maps' seems to be random.
Garmin seem to be very good at using general terms to mean specific things. I notice that after a while they change their mind and call them something different. The latest changes are
Favourites (uk) / Saved (usa) . The XT2 now use the correct term - Waypoint.
Via Point. For ages Garmin used the term 'Destination'. Now it seems to be called a 'Stop' . Confusing because I will often use a shaping point as an optional stop (to mark the turn-off for cafes for example)
Trip. Was used up until the XT1 to mean Route. The XT2 has now adopted the term Route. But confusingly, they now use Route to also mean the thing that you get when you convert a track to something navigable. That behaves differently from a normal gpx defined route, and in my view should have a different name.
