Traffic providers?

Post by Splinter »

I think I know the answer to this already, since I live in Argentina.
Is there any way to get live traffic on my Zumo XT. Garmin says it should come through the Drive app which I have setup correctly, but the Zumo tells me that I need a compatible accessory and that no traffic providers are available. I wouldn't say that the Garmin FAQs were particularly helpful, but anyway. One of their pages had a link to Here We Go maps and I mistakenly thought that their map could link devices and thus traffic, but that wasn't the case.
As others have mentioned, if Waze or similar could talk to Garmin...

In the U.S. it works via the Drive app and therefore the “compatible accessory” is the phone. I don’t think the XT works with any other traffic receiver.

AFAIK, the Traffic app works with an external receiver however the XT manual is very vague saying "This feature is
not available in all areas or for all device models.". A smartphone running the Drive app works but it does not rely on the Traffic app. This is what the manual says:

Receiving Traffic Data Using Your Smartphone
Your device can receive subscription-free traffic data while
connected to a smartphone running the Garmin Drive app.
1 Connect your device to the Garmin Drive app (Pairing Your
Phone and Headset, page 13).
2 On your zūmo device, select Settings > Traffic, and verify
the Traffic check box is selected.

Yes, it's extremely vague and I can't make head nor tail of it.
Anyway, I'll just keep an eye on any updates that might be forthcoming, which I doubt.
Thanks for your replies!

I did this a while back, and was pleasantly surprised to see traffic data on my XT. It's not the most accurate, but I'll take it. Goodness knows whence the Drive app is getting its traffic data, but I'm not paying for it!

You are not paying for it. I find it very close to Waze.
