Yes - I agree. You kept saying about the CanBus, but hadn't twigged the significance. I know nowt about Can Bus - except that they work on a very similar principle to the DCC controllers on model railways. Power to everywhere along a single power line, controlled by a chip which responds to signals from a central computer and transmitted along with the power. Very clever. Very expensive.

Maybe the Remote Controller needs a more restricted voltage of 10 to 12V than the varying voltage that is provided by a direct connection to the battery ?

Excellent point. Mine comes today and I'm going to use it.

If anyone gets their hands on one of these handlebar remotes - I wonder if you would mind posting some dimensions please ? I have a Honda ST1300 Pan European - which has no handlebar visible. I want to find out if my Heath-Robinson attempt at a bracket (2nd pic, post#1) will actually do the job - so I thought I'd make a balsa wood replica to try for size and position, before writing my note to Santa.

A=80mm
B=20mm
C=50mm

D I don't know since it is already mounted. It comes with various bushings to go from 7/8" to 1 1/4" bar sizes. Without any bushing it is probably a bit larger than the 1 1/4".

Got everything installed and working today. Power cord comes with about 10 feet of wire which was way too long for my setup and difficult to stow so I cut off most of it. Controller works quite nicely and as advertised. When you start up the bike/nav it takes a few moments before the controller comes online.

Many thanks for the info Marc - @marcparnes

Today I put it all to good use to see whether the device would fit OK on my ST1300.

So a ramball mount now bolted ontop of the clutch lever mount brackets.
A short RAM joining extension
A sawn-off RAM ball mount (originally intended for mounting on the clutch/brake lever mounts.
A piece of plastic pipe - which easily deforms in boiling water.
A piece of balsa wood and your very useful measurements
A handlebar clamp which I think came with the bullet cameras that I bought years ago.
et Voila !

Still with plenty of leeway to allow change of position - but I am pretty certain that this mount position will work OK. (it doesn't look like it, but there is plenty of room for my thumb to get at the headlight dip/main switch without knocking the balsa remote).

Lots of tidying up to do when I get the real thing - and the tube needs to be secured properly and I'll make it shorter - once I can be sure of the best position. As it is, I can reach the bottom three buttons with my thumb without lifting my hand from the bar. The top one requires a bit of hand movement. (Big hands)

From your Short Press screen shots, some functions - eg Zoom out - say that they also apply to long press.
Does that mean that long press on that particular button is not available for a different function - or does it mean that Zoom Out is also available on the list of long press options ?

It just means I pressed the option to set the short press function. Most all of them are available as a long or short press. I was just trying to show the setting options available.
