How to display traffic lights?

Post by honza »

Is there a way on the 396 to display traffic (intersection) lights on the map?

I'm not sure, but you can ask at the XT section, it's very active one.

No traffic lights on the XT, I don't think lights are included as part of the map data. I've never seen a dedicated GPS with traffic light info.

I've recently seen some traffic lights (and stop signs) on my Google Maps app, but that app is pulling data from supercomputers with unlimited storage capacity. I have many Google maps downloaded to my phone for off-line use, so I can still navigate if I have no cellular service. If I put my phone into airplane mode (no cellular or wifi data) I can still find and navigate to a new destination, but the traffic lights and stop signs are not shown in the Maps app.

I use Google maps on my phone when I drive my car. They show which intersection has traffic lights. I just count how many lights till I have to turn. Makes life so much easier. I'm very surprised garmin doesn't support such a fundamental feature

Garmin does not use Google maps and has no access to this data. But you still can count intersections to the turn and listen the instructions.

No Zumo 390/395/396 here, I use a 595 and an XT1, but with Base Camp planning and Garmin's maps, I often get turn instructions that include "turn -- at the traffic light". The unit knows they are present, why they can't be displayed is a mystery to me.

Far too many traffic lights in the US. You boy's need to embrace the roundabout :D Here mapping on Garmin devices recognises roundabouts!

I have voice navigation turned off but I routinely count the number of streets to the turn. I would consider turn signals icons as clutter and would look to turn them off although I suppose it depends on the kind of roads you tend to ride on. I try to avoid roads with turn signals. I know I would feel differently if I did mostly urban riding.
