Is it possible to down-date Garmin Express (solved)

Post by jfheath »

I have the latest version of Express. Zumo XT2 comes with permissions to download all sort of maps from across the globe. A while back I downloaded N America, and it was also possible to install the maps on to the PC, which I have done.

I've just downloaded OZ maps - I don't need it on the XT2, but I would like it on the PC for Basecamp.
But Express v 4.70 no longer has that option.

Is it possible to install an earlier version of Express - or get the maps from the XT2 onto a PC.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Ok - I found a solution. This is Express v7.23.0.0

The problem was that the maps that I had installed to the XT2 without issue, would not install to the PC (Windows).
I know that the option used to be there prior to this version of Express. I had updated Express earlier this month.

But once installed on the XT2, the beahviour of the XT2 was dfferent. It lists all of the maps that are on the The XT2 and underneath each one is a link to Options. This normally gives two options - Reinstall Maps, and Install Maps to Computer. That second option was not there.

So I got rid of Express - Uninstalled it, and reinstalled it.

And now the option is there again. So my maps are now installed on the PC for BAsecamp to find.

I can't belive that I had to uninstall Express to get this. Maybe I just needed to reinstall it. I don't know.
But the clutching at straws trick worked OK. Again. I hate doing things that I know I shouldn't have to do. But until I have tried everything I cannot say that there is no answer. I've been doing a lot of clutching at straws recently. Thatchers are not that easy to find these days either.

Now I an in to the same problem.
- Update Garmin Express to 7.24.00.
- Update XT2 with the new NTU Europe 2026.10 with GExpress
But I could not find the option to instal the new map on my PC fore use in BC.
Where do I find Express 7.23.00?

Thankful fore any thoughts

The problem is solved. I found the GE 7.23.00 on internet and now I have it stored here in a special map.
I uninstalled the 7.24.00 and reinstalled the old version again. And now the new NTU Europe 2026.10 is installed on my PC for use in Basecamp. But it worry that Garmin - to any price - try to prevent us XT2-oners to use Basecamp as planing software as usual.

And that is why, I will be keeping an older Garmin, e.g. 590 / XT etc so as to have the "install to computer" option available. ;)

Halo "Oop North John". Thanks for your input.
Yes - I have 660 and 595 in my possession but it seams that they (mother Garmin) provide XT2 with one degree newer map. Yesterday I loaded "NTU Europe 2026.10" to XT2 and this evening the newest for my 595 Travel ED are "NTU Europe 2025.20". But maybe the 595 "nonTravel ED" have 2026.10 as its newest map. BUT - in al I think its not that important to have the latest map on board. The difference are not that big.

Anyway I stick to GE 7.23.00 as long as it works and in that way have the opportunity to load new maps from XT2 on my PC.
Have a nice evening

I have a 595 that is the Travel Edition and it gets the latest mapping after the others, and I have no idea why! The 590 I have has updated to 2026.10.

Always sensible to stay with a software version that works best for you. Originally the XT didn't have the faster roads faulty algorithm, I wish I'd kept it at the version.

PS:
Yes I do seem to collect Garmin GPS's, hunting for the holy grail of bright screen, "fastest" routing takes the least time, and routing that doesn't have the RUT problem. The XT got replaced by the 595 as when I did a trip down to Bosnia, I was ready to throw the XT into the bin because of the RUT problems.
