Thank you jheath.

My goodness! You certainly extract much interest (and pleasure, I assume) from your XTs and trip planning. I enjoy trip planning and navigating too but success and satisfaction with the XT is about 50%, I would say. I accept this is entirely (well 98%) my own lack of BC/XT knowledge, and being very time limited does not help.

Last week I made a 600km trip over two days, and while the XT fulfilled its basic role of guiding me from starts to finish (I arrived!), I seemed like a passenger on the ride rather than being in involved in the navigation. I had loaded the intended trip legs onto my XT, no problems, but I had start and final destination separated by shaping points only, so I was receiving little/no information of navigation interest.

I would like to see on the screen of my XT distances and times to my Via points (next time), do they ever show? Anyway, it is all fun, and I enjoy it, even the difficulties that challenge me.

Cheers, Mikey

If you press the data display near the bottom right hand corner, you can change what is shown from a rather long list, including Distance to Via.

But often, having one piece of data isn't enough - so tap the 3 bar menu button in the bottom right corner. This gives you access to all sorts of features including a mini version of the mp3 player, weather data etc. The one that I use most often is what you are after - Trip Data. Select that, it displays 3 additional pieces of data - some of which are only available if you have a route loaded.

Tap the button that you want to change and choose from the list. I like to have the current time at the top. Time to destination in the bottom white button. Time to Via and distance to Via in the other two. Sometimes I like to have the compass direction. I don't think it allows you to show the same button twice - so if you want to rearrange buttons, you have to do a bit of shuffling by using a button that you don't want to display. Eg to switch A and B you have to change A to show C (which you don't want), then change B to show A, then change C to show B.

If you close that display to show something else, then you have to use the 3 bar menu / trip data to put it back.

Note that the XT remembers 2 different setting for this display - 1: if you have a route active. 2: If you dont.

Editing your own posts. Top right of the post in question there are a group of icons.

The pen shaped icon opens your post to edit it.
Make the changes, press submit. If you have been a long time making changes it will probably present you with an error. That is because the server got fed up waiting. Just press submit again. Don't switch to another page on the website while you are doing this - it won't remember what you have typed. If you need to go to another page, then open up a new tab so that the present one with the edits remains intact.

The other icons (you may not have all of them)
The cross is to delete a post.
The exclamation mark is to report a post to the moderators.
The quotes - this is to reply to a post and include the entire contents of that post in your reply. You can trim out parts of the original so that you only quote the bits that you are replying to. As I have done in this post.
The thumb up can be used if you read a post that you particularly like, or find useful. I pressed this for your post above this one - so that you can see what it does.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Thank you jfheath.
There is a fantastic body of knowledge and tips in your posts. I need to try all of them and see how they work.
I am keeping a small notebook on the BC/XT system and you have given me information for more entries.
Much appreciated, Mikey
