Battery replacement

Post by jpc6000 »

Never used zumo xt, find box
Try starting up.
See low battery, led night charging.
Next day, still low battery.

I let it in box at 80%, a year or maybe 3, thought that's was li-ion battery.
Google, the zumo battery, looks that's still used a nickel-cadmium battery, that's need always the highest load all the time, to conserve the battery. And discharged completely. Thought I. These are bad batteries. 👎 Is it true that used these battery types?

I think the battery is for the bin.
Can I buy li-ion batteries for the zumo xt or does it work only with nickel-cadmium?
There are two cells, I saw?
Type?

The zumo will not charge the battery in standby mode it needs to be turned on to charge

Plug it in and get it turned on and leave it to charge :)

And then you can put it into standby mode by a short press of the power button, and you should see faint information that the XT is continuing to charge.

I use a charger that shows the power output so I can see what's happening, about 1.6amps for the GPS in standby and charging, about 2amps with the screen on.

Once you can reliably turn it on, there are diagnostic screens available to see the battery's status, charging info etc etc. One way of accessing this is by about a 10 seconds press on the battery symbol. Beware of what you're doing when in there! HTH.

It's important that the AC adapter have at least 2 amp output. Use the Garmin cable, or at least one that you know for certain is a charging cable.

..... For 24 hours uninterrupted, preferably with a charger which will supply at least 2Amps.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !
