OK... this is really, really infuriating. I must have done a wrong selection on something but now if I start a new route and add a start and then and end point, when I close I get a straight line. WHAT HAPPENED??????
After doing some research on line, I found a similar issue. They suggested that the maps selected in Basecamp were not appropriate. I checked my map selection. It was "Global Maps". (whatever that is). So, I selected the most recent Garmin Map 26.01.
Nothing changed. then I added a new waypoint and the route became what I had seen before. So, it might be fixed.
The "Global map" is not navigable, hence the straight line. Switching to the CN NA NT 2026.1 map and then recalculating the route should have fixed it.

As Peobody points out, the Global Map won't work. It comes with Basecamp, but you either have to install a CN NT NA map on your computer or have your XT plugged in to do routing. Why BC sometimes "forgets" which map is selected and defaults to Global is a mystery I have never solved. Luckily the fix is easy.
I don't know if this helps, but I clean out the maps folder on my iMac each time I update to the newest version, leaving only my Topos and the latest CN NT NA. If you have lots of older versions in the folder it =may= increase the chance of BC "forgetting."

I checked that by accident. But, I don't know how the "Global" maps got selected.
Did you install a new map and then delete an old map? If the old map was the selected map in Basecamp, its subsequent startup would not have been able to find the old map so defaulted to the Global map.

I used Microsoft Sheets and Trips until early last year when I bought the new Zumo 595. Basecamp was on my computer but never used it.
Having to use the 595 required me to learn Basecamp. I am still learning.
I think I have six or seven maps installed. I kept them in case, since I do have a 660 and a 665 that I still use. Ans since the 665 is stuck with using only the older map I keep them on the computer. Probably not required, but.

Keep in mind that a route created in Basecamp with a map that does not match the map in the satnav may cause the route to be recalculated by the satnav. It does with the XT, don't know about the older ones. Recalculation by the device is the nemesis of Basecamp. When the route is accepted by the device, it maintains ghost points created by Basecamp. Those points maintain the route as created. When a calculation occurs on the device, the ghost points are lost and the device uses its own algorithms to create a route between route points (via and shaping points).
