Garmin Express 7.24 will NOT let you save the MAP to your laptop / PC.
If you did, here's a link to the previous version https://garmin-express.en.uptodown.com/ ... 1021794763
Not sure why they have taken away this feature but they have.
Also NOTE: You may need to go into your explorer and uncheck the MAPS folder as READ ONLY. You want this unchecked so you can write to the folder where the maps are stored.

Re: DONT UPDATE GARMIN EXPRESS
Yup! It appears that GE 7.24 detects when an XT2 is connected and removes the option to install the map to a PC. That option is there and works when earlier satnavs are connected. It worked with my XT.

Re: DONT UPDATE GARMIN EXPRESS
i think it's because the XT2 uses the tread app for trip planning and not Basecamp, since Basecamp uses the maps on the computer

Re: DONT UPDATE GARMIN EXPRESS
Here is what Garmin Support has to say about it.
It might help if Garmin hears concerns from many users at https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/Steve:
The latest version of Garmin Express (7.24) seems to have broken the ability to download maps to the computer.
Christopher:
Thank you for contacting Garmin Chat Support. I will be with you shortly. What model device are you using and what happens when you try to install the maps to the computer?
Steve:
With versions up to 7.23, when updating my zumo XT2 I could also update the maps on my computer. That seems to be broken or eliminated from version 7.24.
Christopher:
It will not allow the zumo XT2 to install maps to the computer since it is not compatible with Basecamp. I see that you have other models devices on the account. Do you have access to any of the other devices? A workaround that you can do is to install the maps to the computer using one of those other models.
Steve:
I no longer have my XT. I know Basecamp is no longer officially supported with the XT2 but it does work rather well in reality. I don't see why the functionality needs to be removed from Express.
The alternative to Basecamp is the Tread App, but it has some very major issues which remain unresolved after long periods of time, so many XT2 users still use basecamp.
Christopher:
I see, unfortunately we have no way to add that option into Garmin Express because of compatibility.
Steve:
That can't be true since Garmin Express 7.23 worked fine.
Christopher:
It is designed like that purposely. This is by design. We have no way to change this.
Steve:
It is unfortunate that Garmin continues to reduce its functionality, product usefulness, and support options. I would suggest that Garmin Express continue to support map downloads until the major issues with the Tread App get fixed. I realize that is beyond your personal control, but please provide this feedback up your chain.
Christopher:
I will be happy to submit feedback for this, however the information we have been given is the compatibility will not change based on prior cases with this request. You can also submit feedback from the Garmin Ideas link below.
https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/
Steve:
I see. Thank you for your time. Have a good day.
Christopher:
Thanks for choosing Garmin. Have a great day!

Re: DONT UPDATE GARMIN EXPRESS
can you borrow an XT from a friend and then use that borrowed XT to run Express and download maps to your computer?

Re: DONT UPDATE GARMIN EXPRESS
or maybe buy an older used 550 and use that used 550 on Express for map downloads to your computer

Re: DONT UPDATE GARMIN EXPRESS
I guess you could but I don't have that many friends and even fewer have ZUMO XTs. Might just be easier to roll back to the 7.23 version of Garmin Express.

It would be even better if Garmin didn't force us to jump through these ridiculous work arounds in order to make their products useful!

Re: DONT UPDATE GARMIN EXPRESS
You can use either the maps on the GPS or those on the computer. Most will use the computers as it's quicker.twowheelstom wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 11:28 pm i think it's because the XT2 uses the tread app for trip planning and not Basecamp, since Basecamp uses the maps on the computer
Personally, I think that it's Garmin being arsey about it and hoping to make Basecamp obsolete sooner than it otherwise would have been.

Re: DONT UPDATE GARMIN EXPRESS
Or they will push away/alienate their userbase so they buy something other than Garmin.....
I still have a 550, but if I'm not mistaken the latest map updates won't download for the 550 as Garmin classifies the 550 as EOL and not support new maps.
I did not get the map update notification for the last map I put on my XT.
I have a feeling I will be rolling back to 7.23
