Update 2026.1 P.I.A.

I should have never updated to 2026.1 from 2025.1 on my 16" MacBook Pro M1 Max OS Sequoia 15.1.1. It's so glitchy, I can hardly drag the map around. In the past, using the map in 3D helped eliminate this problem but, not now. I'm running BC 4.8.13 and updated Garmin Express to 6.60 beforehand so these reaccuring time consuming normal issues would be kept at a minimum. 2025.1 was running fairly well... It very well could be due to all the maps installed as shown below. Out of the three 2026.1 versions in the list, the top one works but, very glitchy. If I have my XT plugged in, the map is not that glitchy. The other two 2026.1 only show part of the map or loads up slow in sections. No doubt, part of these maps are corrupted. I don't use any TOPO maps or the National Parks v2 map. All I use is City Navigator North America NT. Is there any way to clean this up so I can start fresh? Thanks. Ray

I closed out of BC and took a break..... Upon re-opening BC, I checked the Maps tab and I was astonished when I saw the following. Anyone know why this would change so drastically? I didn't shut down or restart my MacBook. My XT wasn't plugged in before or after I took the break. Puzzled to say the least. Plus NO glitchy playing field. I also closed out a couple times and re-opened BC... so far, so good. I'll report back if anything changes....

Was Basecamp open while Express updated the map?

These symptoms suggest a Finder glitch. If the Finder failed to update its directory for the maps folder, this could happen. I've found that having a cluttered desktop can trigger Finder issues. If yours has lots of files or folders "loose" on the desktop, put them in a folder inside your user account and restart your Mac.

You could also run the repair sequence in Disk Utility.

Thank You Dan for bringing that to my attention. I never thought about desktop items causing an issue. I do have about a dozen folders on my desktop along with about a dozen loose articles as well. I will definitely clean this up along with placing the majority in My Documents for example. I'll also, perform the repair sequence under DU as you suggested. Thanks again... Ok.... The only time I'm getting the full list in BC as shown in the OP is when I plug in my XT. When unplugged, BC shows up like the 2nd post. Is there a way to clean the maps off of the XT so I can start fresh in Garmin Express with a new map install of 2026.1? Thanks. Ray

If it's being caused by maps on your xt do a search on it for any *.img files as those are the map files. Delete those you find along with any associated .unl and .gma files. Don't though delete a file named gmapbmap as that is the worldwide basemap and should be left. If you have access to a windows computer you can use JaVaWa's Device Manager program to do this all for you.

Thank you for the help... Unfortunately, I don't have a Windows computer. If I have to go into the Garmins internal memory I'll hold off for now. I bricked my 595LM by doing so therefore, I'm really leary about doing this again. I was hoping Garmin Express would be able to do this but, I see that's still not an option. I have a big trip coming up in which I already created all by routes by the day. I always place my routes on an SD card. Makes it nice for being able to see what they are instead of Route1, Route2 & so on. Just hope I don't have any issues on the road. Thanks again, appreciate it. Ray

OK, now I understand the problem and per usual, sussamb is correct. Have you tried using Express, Map Details, Options to re-install 2026.10 without first deleting any files? That option is offered on my Mac using Express 7.25.0.0. That is the safest option.

If you do need to delete old map files on your GPS, to avoid bricking your zumo, simply copy the files to your Mac before deleting them from your GPS and do not touch anything else on the XT. If for some reason the Express install goes wrong, you will have the original files intact on your Mac.

In order to see the XT files on your Mac you are going to need a program called Open MTP, which allows you to see and work with files on an Android device (which your XT is). Open MTP has a friendly look that is just like the Finder on your Mac, so it's not scary to use.
