I tried again last night with other configurations - its becoming an obsession.
Paring as a GPS to Cardo works OK but no phone..... but its given me an idea

Ill try this when I get home tonight and really screw everything up
Phone to Zumo
Zumo to Cardo as GPS
Phone to bike for music and phone
Cardo to Bike
Helmet to Helmet comms
This will mean that the Nav will come through on the Cardo channel 2 with the bike (phone and music) using channel 1
That is worth a shot. It may well work.

The advantage of having the bike in the equation is that I can use my handlebar controls AND the zumo for the controls. Very useful for volume controlled by the bike and also when you get a shit tune and want a quick next. :D
Zumo as hub with phone paired to Zumo and headset paired to ZUmo has been 100% reliable for me. Connects within 30 seconds of turning everything on. Usually much faster. And it never misses a beat. Tread is installed but is not allowed to synch.

Only when I introduce music from the phone, or the XT2 / Tread synchronisation do I have any problems.

If you have your XT2 set up to synch with the Tread App, it is worth getting rid of it. It means an XT2 restore to factory / reset, and delete Tread from phone. Later you can set up Tread again - without allowing it to store data / synchronise.

Never mind about whether you want to use Tread synch or not. You will be able to find out what is causing the issue - the phone music or the Tread app. Once you know that, you can start working out how to get the best of what works. The chances are that not everything will work.

I mean - you can pass the phone operations to the XT2 (make call, answer call, access phone book, view call list, see who is calling etc etc. But I do not think it will allow you to pass that 'acquired' control on to another device.

Using different channels may be a solution. I have tried, without success. But I didn't try particularly hard to make it work. (Ie I tried once and gave up 'cos it wasn't what I wanted anyway !!)
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Some info that may be relevant.

The Cardo Edge manual is no longer correct as regards pairing. In order to pair phone, second phone or GPS the manual says to tap the phone button, once or twice.

This doesn't work - I have always rolled the wheel forward or backward.

BUT - if you take notice of what the manual says, tap the phone button once while it is pairing, and then roll the wheel, the options change

So - Hold phone button 5 seconds

Bike Pairing
Fwd=2nd Phone Pairing
Bkwd = GPS Pairing

But if you tap the phone button again, the GPS Pairing option becomes 'Bike Pairing' Tap it again, that option goes back to GPS pairing.
I don't know about the Freecom, but a recent software update might have done the same thing.

I have heard 'Bike Pairing' before, but never thought about what it meant - but I note that people have talked about 'pairing their bike' - and didn't realise that it might mean pairing with the dash / console on their bike. My bike is nearly old enough to run on steam, and if I want to slow down faster, I press the brake harder, and if I am travelling on bumpy roads, the throttle has a position where the bike is able to absorb the bumps with easer. Going slower, I think they call it.

So I'm a bit out of touch with plugging 'the bike' into a phone. ( I wonder if that was what the AA men with their yellow bikes and sidecars were doing as they saluted as you rode past the AA phone box ?)

I haven't got a clue what those settings enable you to do, but thought I'd mention it. I've only just found out about them.
