Re: Track voice instructions
It is possible to convert a track to a route. That has limitations but you can then get turn-by-turn directions for the route. Do you have waypoints for the track?

Re: Track voice instructions
There are 4 ways to use a track for navigating that I can think of.
- Display the track in the screen. The satnav keeps you 'centred' on the map. Its up to you to keep on the plotted track. Rather like hilighting your route on a paper map, with someone pointing to your current position. No instructions.
- Load Track and say Go! Interesting, relaxing behaviour. No instruction, but it informs you how far off corse you have gone and a dotted straight line indicates the general direction to the closest point.
- Display the track as well as the route. Route issues instructions, but it may change. Tracks never change
- Convert Track to a Trip. Instructions are given, route doesn't change unless you deviate, when it works out how to get you back on course.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Re: Track voice instructions
Thank you John. I used a track for the first time while recently in Luxembourg. I thought I would give it a try a friend had his Tomtom 500 with a .gpx track loaded and he was given spoken instructions by his Tomtom. I just wanted to know if I had missed a setting, I obviously did not.
I tried the route on top of the track method, this was all done in an attempt to keep my Garmin XT and the Tomtom users on the same roads. I found that riding the track with no instructions distracted me from the job of riding. I have managed for all these years without using tracks I think I can see out my days without them and go back to using routes. Thank you all for your input.

Re: Track voice instructions
Number 4 will give you more or less what your friends' tom tom has. A trackw hich gives instructions - you just have to convert it to a trip using the Zumo screen.
Routes behave pretty well on the XT screen, but can go wrong if the route ever has to recalculate itself - eg Pressing 'skip' will alway allow such odd behaviour to develop further along the route: Subsequent deviations from the route do not behave as you would expect. Something that I called "RUT behaviour". But there are a few fixes that will sort it out. Just ask.

Re: Track voice instructions
If you have ever had the XT recalculate a route that resulted in changes to the remainder of the route, having a track of the original route showing on the map is valuable because it makes the deviations visible. If they are minor, you can choose to follow the new route or manually navigate the track line until you are back on the original route. If they are major, a restart of the route to get the original one back may be the way to go.
