Xt and Basecamp Map confusion

Post by ledwardio »

I hope someone can point me in the right direction here.

I'm taking a group to the Alps next week so loading my route files into the XT. But some of the routes have gone a bit crazy in Switzerland with the route just turning into a mass of flags and not seeming to show any other detail of other Swiss roads when loaded in to Trip Planner:

Whilst trying to figure out what on Earth could be happening I spot that Maps listed in Basecamp show the error of Valid Chart Product Not Found where the 2026.10 should be listed:

BC-Valid2.png

I waited quite patiently but it never seems to update to the proper name.

I checked the XT and the 2026.10 map is listed:

I've re-installed maps to both Basecamp and the XT via Express but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Though strangely the Menu on Basecamp calls it's installed map 2026.1, though the linked file is 2026.10:

I've looked through the files on the XT and Memory Card for .img files but can find none to delete.

I'm a bit stumped - any suggestions???

If anyone wants to look at the route gpx in case there is a clue in there then here it is:

I downloaded and imported into BaseCamp. I don't see what you are. To me it looks "normal", a perfectly ride-able route with a few stops marked as waypoints.

Thanks for checking.

I am convinced it is a map fault on the XT so I'm going to try one more re-install of the map using Express, if that fails I reckon it's factory reset time

Same here as @rbentnail said - looks completely normal here!

It's normal, that Basecamp doesn't show the last '0' in the maps name, that was always so - i think, reinstalling the maps on the Zumo XT might help, maybe there was an hickup while installing them on the Zumo XT. Did you intall them via WiFi or via GE the first time?

Also, what i would check - are the 'Device transfer' settings in Basecamp under 'Options' right? There should no one of the checkmarks be set - this leads to problems when importing routes to the Zumo XT!
Bye, Robert :)

I've never registered that about the 0 in the maps name before, it was just something that I thought could indicate a conflict.

Basecamp transfer settings are all unticked.

The maps are always updated by me using Express, I don't even connect it to the wifi. I have removed the SD card and just done another replace maps via Express but the problem persists.

It is definitely a map error - there seems to be chunks of Switzerland that are missing, though strangely not where my route above goes  Here's a screenshot of just below the St Gotthard Pass, you can see that the roads and detail just end

Well I've done the full reset, tried to remember all my settings and slowly loaded my data back in and it seems to be working ok now, Swiss map shows ok and routes load without issue :!: Which is good, but frustrating not to know what caused it to have such an upset.

I am still getting Valid Chart Product Not Found instead of the map name in the Zumo Window in Basecamp, but if it is working I can live with that as I only ever use the map saved onto the computer.

Thanks for the help, I'm just going to have to chalk this down to another XT Xperience

Yes, this was definitively a fault in the maps, here are two screenshots of that region on my Zumo XT

Regarding the map error in Basecamp - do you have also another map than the original Garmin one's on the Zumo XT?
Also it looks like you're on a Apple, right? Maybe there is some problem with reading the unlock .gma file for the City Navigator maps...

Yeah, strange that the reset said it doesn't alter the map files but after doing it that area was displaying fine so something that had been uploaded to it was causing the conflict. I've not added any other maps than what Garmin supply so that can't have caused it.

Yeah I'm on a Mac, I don't see why Basecamp would have trouble reading that file but it's possible. Where would it be stored on the XT? I'll see if it is in the right location.

I have 2026.10 installed on Basecamp, my XT2 and my XT1

Your route(s) install and display perfectly OK on all three of my devices (BC, XT1 and XT2).

I have seen that repeated flag issue before. It was an issue with the file that caused it - if I remember correctly - which resulted in it thinking that every single invisible 'ghost' point was a Via point. But that is not the case with the files and routes that you posted. They work perfectly well. (there were two copies in the gpx file).

Make sure that you don't have any maps selected other than Garmin's

Software installed on the XT1 is v6.60. Where in the UK are you ?
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Hmm, the GPX I uploaded of the route was purely just the route selected and saved by 'Export Selected User Data' so should only have 1 instance of the route.

Maybe Basecamp for Mac is doing something weird there. I have also had the ahem, pleasure, of uploading these to a friends TomTom MyDrive and it really didn't like the GPX from Basecamp, putting everything in the wrong order - I ended up exporting as CSV and making a streamlined GPX file to upload which worked much better.

The XT does seem happy again after resetting, with the same routes exported to it so who knows.

My XT software is 6.60

I'm almost a neighbour to you jfheath - I'm in Bingley. It's always nice to see roads I know in your very clear and helpful examples on here ;)
