I need to replace a few parts on the 12 V accessory plug adapter on my Zumo 550 cord.
The following parts were lost by a person who used my Zumo:
- the metal 'tip' of the plug
- the nut that threads into the adapter (holds the tip)
- the spring
- the fuse (easy enough to find)
I'd like to simply replace these parts, but I cant locate them. I've noticed that other charger cords seem to have a slightly different diameter (11/32 ?) than the Garmin unit (3/8).
Any suggestions ?

First suggestion that comes to mind is to not let someone else use your 550.
You can get a replacement 12v accessory plug, take the old Garmin one apart and remove the wires (or just clip them close to the plug, strip the wires and install the replacement plug. Most have screw terminals so no soldiering required.

It was my wife who borrowed it while renting a car !!!!!!!!!!dave726 wrote: ↑Tue May 29, 2018 2:47 pm First suggestion that comes to mind is to not let someone else use your 550.

I thought about just buying a accessory plug and splicing it in, replacing the existing plug. I'm not sure if the plugs I looked at could be taken apart/support a solder-less solution. Who carries such a plug ? How do I ensure that I keep the correct +/- polarity ? I assume the 'tip' is the + ?

Before you buy a standard plug you need to make sure that there is no voltage regulator in the original plug. I don't know if the Zumo is actually 12 volts. It may have a voltage reducing circuit built into the accessory plug.

I just did a quick check on Amazon. You can buy a new 12 volt accessory cord for your Zumo 550 for about $10 and be sure it is the right one.

The 550 runs on 4.2 volts so your supply needs to be reduced.

I had done some checking on Amazon and eBay, but could not find anything OEM for under $20.
If I limit my search to 4.2v, I suspect that eliminates most of the non-OEM.
Please post or PM a link to the cord.

Doesn't the cradle have the voltage reduction electronics?

I'm not really sure on that Dave, just know that a mate plugged his Nuvi into an accessory socket on his bike and it sort of went fizzzzzz and stopped working A small wisp of smoke was seen to rise from the Nuvi

Why does it have to be OEM? I'd just buy one that is for the 550.
