I have been looking at ways to plan routes on a mobile phone and send them to the Garmin Zumo
Searching about everyone says there is no way possible unless you use basecamp and a computer! Well thats not strictly true and I am going to tell you how it can be done.
Firstly you need an app on your phone for planning the routes, I have used an app called Kurviger https://kurviger.de/ others may be available.
Then you need a way to transfer them to your Garmin Zumo from your phone which is via a micro SD card.
Then you need a way to transfer the route from your mobile phone to the micro SD card.
If your phone has a micro SD card slot then great but if its a bit of a pain to get the card in and out then I suggest buying a suitable adaptor for your phone.
I bought one of these.

This is for my phone that has a type C usb port. Please check which you require.
You should familiarise yourself with the way Kurviger works and how to plan routes and also set your phone up so you know where it will store the GPX files before you go on a trip.
On your mobile phone use the inbuilt file manager app to create a folder where you will store the routes. I created a folder on the root of the internal memory called "Routes" I then created a shortcut on my phones desktop for easy access you don't have to do this it was just for ease for me.
Open Kurviger and in the bottom left corner there is a button with three lines (menu button) click this then on settings.
Click on Application.
Click on Export folder.
Then using the file button at the bottom middle select the folder that you created earlier and click the green tick.
You are now ready to create and export routes to this location.
Simply create your route then click the menu button >> Routing.
Then click on Export.
Then name the route if you so wish for ease Click on the drop down menu where it says Kurviger (*.kurviger) and select Garmin ShapingPoint GPX (*.gpx) I ticked route and waypoints then under additional waypoints select many and click OK.
The route is now exported and in the folder.
Insert your micro SD card in to your phone or the card reader with the file management app on your phone simple copy the route(s) to the SD card and then insert the SD card in to the Zumo and import it
You will need to recalculate it on the Zumo once imported and I know it seems a long way but when you are out on a trip and something changes then this could work for you.

If that works for you then great but why not just make the route using the zumo screen? I start by creating a route by picking my final destination point. I then edit the route, inserting points from the end backwards to start where I'm at. I cringe at the prospect of learning the quirks of yet another routing app.
Have you tried using the bluetooth to transfer the file from the phone to the zumo? A buddy has an Harley Davidson Nav system and we're wanting to figure out how to do this on the road.

I find route planning on the device slow and a pain in the rear! I can do it much faster with kurviger and you can also view in google maps too!rbentnail wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 11:00 pm If that works for you then great but why not just make the route using the zumo screen? Yes its not for everyone but why have limits. I would rather learn a different routing app just in case the zumo packs up while out on a trip! its always handy to have a back up.
As for transfering via bluetooth its a no go. I have tried and tried and it just doesn't work

Re: Planning routes on mobile phone for zumo
It was this reason why I started to look in to planning routes on a mobile phone!
I am off to Germany in June and looking at routes there is plenty of downloadable routes which is great if you're on a PC but not so great if you have no access to one! but once they are downloaded on a mobile there was no way to send them via bluetooth.
As part of the I am just planning a route to our hotel and back and in between we are going to speak to the hotel owners on places to visit as they are a big biking hotel and obviously know the area.
I would rather sit on a night and plan a route using my mobile than hoping the battery lasts in the Zumo while planning.

I understand, to each his own. But when I hit the hotel room at the end of the day there's no worry with the battery. I have with me several usb chargers. I'll just plug it in if needed but since doing the battery modification I've not needed to. I also travel with a small laptop so Base Camp is always around. I just wish there were an Android version, then a smaller tablet would be perfect.

Re: Planning routes on mobile phone for zumo
I always have a charger too but the less I take with me the better especially when packing for two as the wife is always with me!
Not only that I usually travel with mates and we sit and plan our next days while having a beer or two so that could mean sat in a bar or restaurant away from the sat nav etc
I also have a small windows tablet which works well but its too much to take along when I could do it on my phone with no issues
But as you say each t their own! this is just a solution for those that don't have a small laptop and prefer to route plan on their phone! why limit ourselves

I've just ordered one of those gismosStu I've previously had room on my Goldwing to take a laptop to do my route planning etc Having just come back from Southern Spain with the Triumph, I can foresee luggage space being at a premium!!
Stu could you rotate the second picture for me please?

Re: Planning routes on mobile phone for zumo
My wife hates motorcycles so she stays home. I carry loads of stuff- 2 panniers, top case and a big square duffel on the rear seat. It took a few yrs to learn to leave some at home and bring home more souvenirs. Mine is the FJR nearest.Stu wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2020 9:51 am I always have a charger too but the less I take with me the better especially when packing for two as the wife is always with me!
