I and other people who using a 3D printed protector, don't have any problems with the connector.
I'm not sure what you mean by "protection hood".

And what is this "3D printed protector? That's totally new to me.

Thanks,

Are those 3DP covers waterproof? The Z660 cover had a gasket inside to keep the contacts protected.

I leave mine on the bike all the time, except when I stop. Having only had it since mid-May, it hasn't even seen much for weather. I'm not sure how much the cover would help to keep the power pins from failing.

My thoughts at this point are to keep using it till the new power cable arrives. If it fails again, I'll sell the Zumo XT and start using a ruggedized smartphone. Having to replace a cable at about $40 each 3-4 months, will get grossly expensive.

Yes, I can connect a USB cable to the back of the unit, but why? And how well would that work in rain?

I sure hope the new power cable will be better...

I have the same thought about the rubber cover. Is does not give good tactile feedback to indicate it is attached, leading to pressing harder than required. Add gloves and this is compounded.

This could easily lead to some of the problems with the pins

Have had an XT on my bike for about a week and so far no problems..... but I just read this thread.

No new posts for over a month. Is the pin weakness still a problem?

Weakness is not a problem, problem is the standardrubber hood. Most people push to hard and on a wrong way the hood over the connectors. A lot of people here have the external version, and they never had any problems with the connectors.
