Dilemma

Post by Scarecrow »

Right Guys
This could open a can of worms and
This is probably aimed at those who have moved from the 590/595 to the Xt.
I'm considering a new Garmin either a 595 or a XT since I've had my 590 since they were first released
I really fancy a XT but there seems to be a few issues with it on this forum so what are your honest opinions
Are you happy with your XT or do you wish you had waited till the bugs had been Ironed out or wish you had bought the 595. :?:

The 590/595 had issues too (battery connector anyone?), but the screen alone makes everything insignificant with the XT. A bit lighter too. A bit cheaper as well. Oh, did I mention the screen?

I sold my 595 once I ordered the XT, the difference in price left me about 200 AUD out of pocket. Well worth the extra coin compared to a used 590 or 595.

None of the issues are big enough (not even combined) to make the XT purchase a silly idea...

I have installed the 595 software on my 590 it's pretty easy to do.

One thing for certain I would not go from the 590 to the 595 as an upgrade! There's not much difference in them

I went from a Z590, upgraded to the 595 firmware only because the 595 identified by name when skipping a via point. Keep in mind that the only difference between the 590 and 595 is the firmware.
I now have an XT and I love the XT. The difference in the screens viewability is nothing short of astounding. I do miss the TPMS feature of the 590/595 but replaced it with an aftermarket TPMS for $60.

Besides the much better screen the XT has a couple of routing features that are improvements on the 590/595. The selection of entering/re-entering routes via the closest entry point is a great improvement.

I bought the XT to replace the 595. I've also had the 590, 550, 2820 and 2610.
The XT screen is brilliant. Voice dialling works perfectly, if there is more than one option it's asks which you want.
Used it for nearly 5000 miles so far.

Problems. Loose mount. Replaced by Garmin once I finally got hold them.

Current issue with poor connection in mount. Can take several attempts to get a power connection.

Overall it's way ahead of 595. However because of connection issue I also bring the 595 on long trips.

This was the case on 2012 Nuvi 1450 & 1490. They're reinventing the wheel (after they broke it) :x .
I still have Nuvi 1450 and 1490 as a backup. These navs are bulletproof.
