Version 7.4.2.0 Released

Version 7.4.2.0 appeared for my Windows PC today. The install options are still available.

Garmin Express ver 7.4.1.0 just showed up for me today. Didn't get any install options, what do you mean? I updated from whatever version to 7.4.1.0.

eta: Oops! As soon as I launched Express it popped up saying ver 7.4.2.0 was available. Guess I haven't been keeping up with it too well .But again, the only "install options" I see are to choose to update now or not to.

I was referring to the Map Install options that are available AFTER the software is installed on the computer. This would be when Express is run, and a device is selected. If it says Updates Available, click on View Details. Then, for the Map, there is a link for Installation Options. The options are: Device Only, Computer and Device, Computer Only. This installation option seems to be the one that has disappeared for the Zumo XT.

I updated my new XT tonight and I also noticed that I did no longer have the Express option to install to the computer either. This may only be for the XT, I haven't tried the new version of Express with my 550 yet.

My gut is telling me that Garmin is going to be moving to the "cloud" for services and Basecamp, and the ability to download maps to a computer, will be history in the not so distant future...... Just my thoughts on what I see happening.

Even if that's true you would still be able to access the maps on your PC by copying the map files from your device to either a physical or virtual removeable drive.

Oh, gotcha. My 595 hasn't needed an update in quite some time but I'll check when it does.

So today I updated my 550, with GE 7.4.2.0, and I did have all 3 of the previous install options. "to device and computer, device only, computer only."
So it appears that these options are remaining for OLDER devices.
GE did not give me these options when I updated my XT, it strictly updated the device. I did not have my SD card in yet at the time of update so I don't know if GE would have offered an option to install to the card or internal memory.

I have just installed the new GE and the new Europe maps. Although I had the options of installing on device and PC, there was not an option to load onto a SD card that would have helped with the space issue.

When I last updated my maps, I didn't get the option to use the SD card until I began the update. Then I was given the option to use the SD card or just cut back on the area of map.
