Combine routes

Post by CollingsBob »

I decided to create a route to test my ability to create a route, upload it to a GPS and have Waypoints announce to let me know if I had strayed from the route and guide me back on to the route…..but, my route is in a few pieces…
Can I combine the routes into one route?

Not sure how you're creating the routes but if in BaseCamp you can select the portions you wish to join then right click the selection and select Join the selected routes. Note they will be joined in the order you select them.

If you're not using BaseCamp perhaps supply more detail on what you're trying to do

I created the routes in Basecamp, simply by clicking on the map using the rubber band method, with waypoints at the beginning, important intersections and at the end.

Then it's easy enough to combine them, see my post above.

I've used the Join Routes command in Base Camp and know this- it's not a one-and-done thing. Carefully review your new combined route looking for duplicate end points of the previous individual routes. Edit as appropriate otherwise your device could attempt to have you doing unexplained u-turns all day. Please DAMHIK.

It’s just a test to make sure that I know how to create a route, then upload it with the correct names to my garmin…and then be able to open those routes with the garmin and follow them.
Covid has meant that everything I learned, but never got a chance to put into practice..was forgotten, and now have to try and re-learn /remember..

Are you trying to join routes on your device while it's connected to BaseCamp? That won't work as BaseCamp can't edit data on your device.

You need to copy the routes into a folder/list in BaseCamp, do the editing and then send the new data back to your Zumo.

My device is connected to Basecamp because the Garmin has the Europe maps installed on it, but the route(s) are not installed onto the Garmin. Everything I am trying to do is in a folder in Basecamp prior to sending the route to the Garmin.
