In my collection of Garmin sat navs I have a 396 and it has the faster roads problem. It's almost a 595 / XT mix with a smaller screen, which thankfully is brighter than the 595's.Mzokk wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 9:47 am The 3XX units have a couple of advantages even today. They use NTU Garmin Mapping which is still current and routing is WYSIWYG when used with Basecamp mirroring the settings on the unit. The routing algorithm still searches for fastest time not fastest roads. So in use when navigating routes there is nothing to compensate for or make allowances for which makes route design easy.
The 590 and older are I'll guess from the pre-watch era of Garmin, and so it was one of their major income streams, and so they at least made an effort to fix bugs with their units.
