I just updated Express from 7.3.1.0 to 7.4.0.0. The installation options are still there, and the option to load to the computer is still there. However, I don't own a Zumo XT. So this installation issue appears to be some interaction between the Express software and the Zumo XT firmware. But, it does appear that the new Express version will allow loading to the PC - at least for the Nuvi 54LM, Zumo 450/550 and 590.

I posted this 12 March 8:45, but it would be good to have it confirmed.

Express displays both my XT and my 590/595 on the home screen. Even with the XT plugged in to the USB socket, if I select my 595 icon on the home screen, I get the original options to install the maps to the computer.

It suggests it has to be to do with the Express update rather than the v5.90 software on the XT.

Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

I'm at work for the next 4 days and the house is upside down with decorating but I should be able to dig it out!

If I haven't posted in a couple of days then give me a nudge :D

Even with no device attached, if I select my Nuvi 3590, Driveluxe 51 or Zumo 59x on the Express home screen, I get the option to install the maps to my PC. But not for my XT anymore after the XT firmware 5.90 upgrade was installed (*and* after I refreshed the maps on the device) there is now only the 'Manage Maps' option, which will only run if the concerned device is attached to usb.

In term of map management options, both 7.3.1.0 and 7.4.0.0 behave the same.

The 'Manage Maps' option is the same as for some other devices like them Montana 700 series, where the 'Install toe computer' option is also missing.

To me it suggests that this is the intended behaviour of Express and depending on the attached or installed GPS devices and their firmware version.. (and I'm not too happy about it..)

I wonder if abandoning map install to PC has something to do with Garmin Explore

I updated to 5.9 and now I don’t see the red and white compass needle and the map scale beneath it. If I pan the map it shows. But returning to the main map, nothing. It used to show up in the upper right but panning it would move to lower left and sometimes upper left. I like seeing the numerical scale with the line below it. Is it gone from the map?

Any changes you're not expecting after a software update are normally solved by a master reset.

Conformation from MSTOCK27370 in the Garmin Express forums that the latest versions are fine with several other Garmins. It's just the XT that won't allow maps to be saved to the PC.
