Supplementary map names

While adding Open Street Maps to my XT’s sd card I ran across this: I added a 3.9 gb topo map directly to the SD card as gmapsupp.img but found it too slow to refresh on the XT. Rather than deleting it, I thought to ‘deactivate’ the map by renaming it OSMTopo_gmapsupp.img and loaded a smaller OSM map as gmapsupp.img. Checking MyMaps on the device showed both OSM maps available. The XT recognized OSMTopo_gmapsupp.img as a valid map name.

Modern Garmin devices aren't restricted to specific map names like the older devices

Good to know. Would any name with the .img extension work, or there some known limitations?

I've seen some say if the name is too long it fails but otherwise you can choose what you wish.
