How do email notifications work? I seem to miss a lot.

Post by Peobody »

I am finding myself having to come to the forum website to keep up with activity. I occasionally receive notifications but I don't receive one for every post in a category or discussion to which I am subscribed. Perhaps I need to reset my expectation of email notifications. How exactly does that system work?

FWIW, my email address is a gmail account. No notifications are going into spam.

Thank you!

You will only receive one email when there is a reply until your next visit so if there is 10 replies to one thread you would still only get one email

But you should be getting an email each time a topic has one reply that you are subscribed to

I would just double check the subscriptions and also your settings too.

This is likely the problem. I often look at a post without logging in, doing so only if it is something I can contribute to. I then miss the content in those discussions as they evolve. I'll start logging in on each visit.

Thanks Stu.

Yes if you are reading them without login in then you won't get any more emails till you login and read that thread

Some people prefer to just login every time and use the "unread Posts" link in the quick links on the top left menu bar

or here is a link to it search.php?search_id=unreadposts

^ this, almost. About once per week I use Unread Posts but I usually select New Posts.

Gents, is there any relationship to the "Notify-Me-When-A-Reply-Is-Posted" option? Doesn't it need checking on every thread, or after every post?

Is there not a global setting for this option, as I often forget to check-the-box, and miss replies

TIA

There is an option to turn it on in your profile for every post etc
