Another screwed up route after a skip!

Post by Peobody »

>>>Rant on<<<
I am posting solely to vent about another screwed up route after skipping a via point. I created a 121 mile route yesterday for a ride today with my wife. The route included a left turn in a sweeping curve to the right. The XT did not identify it as a left (on a map it looks almost straight but it is a different road). Of course I missed it which resulted in cutting off a few miles of the route in which their was a via point. Skipping that via point resulted in numerous changes to the remaining route. Luckily I had the track of the route on the map. The recalc of the remaining route after a skip behavior has really gotten old. No surprisingly, the recalc emphasized faster roads, going out of the way to get on them. The recalc route would not have resulted in faster time. If frustrated the heck out of my wife who was hearing voice navigation instructions that I wasn't following. Time to turn voice navigation back off!

Fully justified rant. This happens to me often. I have sent numerous reports to garmin with all the details.

Their latest way of closing the case without acknowledged of it as a bug , is to say they are sorry the product does not meet my expectations

I always made sure I have the original track visible.

I don't bother reporting any new issues as they are not going to fix anything.

And here lies the problem!

They do a bad job and people don't bother reporting it as they think its a waste of time

Yet Garmin will think that they have done a cracking job due to the lack of reports!

Vicious circle really

I wonder if you get these issues in a TomTom? as they way its going my next sat nav is going to be a TomTom

@Stu
What do you propose? All of us report their problems?

This German site has already tried that.

I believe the reports fall on deaf ears. The two times I have inquired into issues have left me feeling like the Garmin front like support folks are not empowered to pass issues up the chain. That type of customer support has become way to common. My wife was terminated due to COVID downsizing so looked for work elsewhere. The two jobs she tried were in phone customer support. She quit both because in both jobs her hands were tied when it came to actually trying to help someone. She was limited in what she could say and do, her time per customer allowance was inadequate, and she was disciplined if she had to escalate an issue. She routinely saw co-workers disconnect a call seconds before the call time allowance was reached (sound familiar?). Unfortunately, that is the current state of customer service. But hey, let's look on the bright side, soon AI will be taking over all of those jobs. :roll:
