Thank you, with the USB cables getting even shorter (latest version 50cm or 19 inches long) it's a job to stop the unit sliding off the desk, (no wifi in our house)

I hear you. I use a laptop on a stand that has an acrylic shelf that the laptop sits on. The shelf is angled downward towards the front. With my previous laptop, my XT could sit securely on the shelf behind the laptop. That space is narrow but the laptop hinge was at the perfect height to hold the XT in place. My new laptop does not have the hinge protrusion at the right height resulting in the XT being susceptible to falling with the slightest bump. Your post has me thinking hard about an alternative spot for it.

After I made this, I checked out 17mm balls on the net, (I made my own from nylon 66 bar) there are lots of them and they will fit straight into the XT car mount.

Nice work on the stand, it has a nice clean look.

If I'm not using the screen (most file transfers, updates), I either lay the XT on its face or use the flat bottom of its 3D printed bumper case to stand it on my desk. The soft flexible plastic also provides a better grip and protection if I still manage to drop the Zumo.

If I'm actually using the screen, a cell phone stand provides additional stability.

Many more models for 3D printing can be found through thangs.com, including some that use the regular mount, with or without the power pins.
