HOW TO SHARE A ROUTE FROM XT@ TO XT
HOW TO SHARE A ROUTE FROM XT@ TO XT
I created a route using Basecamp (Mac) and exported to my XT2 (via SD card). I would like to share with my friend who has an XT. I've tried sending him the GPX file, but it does not work when he opens it? So can I get close to his XT and send it another way? The manual say use Explore?

How did you send? How did your friend open it? What specifically doesn't work?I've tried sending him the GPX file, but it does not work when he opens it?
A gpx file for a route built in Basecamp should work fine on the XT. Export the gpx file from Basecamp, wirite it to an SD card, insert the SD card into the XT and import the route. I have done this many times. This is not the only way, of course.

I created it and then exported it to email. He received and open to a picture. We had been doing the same proses for the last three years, not it does open into a route.

One of you is definitely doing something wrong.
I suspect the export method if he is receiving a picture (of what?).
A GPX file is all text.

That's why we don't understand why.
1. Make route up in basecamp
2. Highlight route under "My Collection"
3. Open file and click Export the highlighted route
4. Export to document file (GPXv1.1 format)
5 open email and attach a document
6. send

I don't understand the "open to a picture" comment. Where is is opening to a picture?. The process on his end should be that he saves the email attached .gpx file to his XT, either to internal storage or SD card, and then uses trip planner to import it.
There is also a reference to saving the export from Basecamp as "GPXv1.1 format". I don't see that as a 'save as' option in my Basecamp v4.7.5.
Regarding your original question about transferring directly from your XT2 to an XT, the XT had the capability to do that via bluetooth. There is no reference to that capability in the XT2 manual. It is a shame that Garmin removed it.

Hi al Garmin-friends
Its hard to be that - sometimes.
To get an update in this mater should´t be to hard technically I believe. How cane the XT2-community put pressure on Garmin. Or am I in a minority?
Nearly chocked - Me and my travel mates have used this BT-option so many times.

Why in earth have Garmin put the BT-option to transfere information to other units in the bin for XT2?!!. I looked for the option today and searched in this forum if it had bean up as a question. It´s a big hole in the Garmin heads. I could´t in my wildest fantasy imaged that this stupid decision ever could be taken when I bought this in - so many other senses - a real nice pice. Fidel with SD-cards is near stone age. And believe that everyone uses the Tread-app is way over the limit of stupidity. Monopoly behaviours! Ore a mistake!?Regarding your original question about transferring directly from your XT2 to an XT, the XT had the capability to do that via bluetooth. Re: HOW TO SHARE A ROUTE FROM XT@ TO XT
Agreed - removal of Bluetooth sharing is crazy. I have many friends with XTs that I used to share routes with via Bluetooth.
It's a very poor decision on Garmin's part, especially as the Bluetooth hardware is inside the XT2. Presumably it's just "switched off" in software only.
I have used Tread to share routes with XT owners though. Just tell the Tread app to share the route via email, then the XT owner opens it in email and exports to Drive, then sends the route from Drive to their XT. However, it's still a clunky approach compared to Bluetooth sharing.

Re: HOW TO SHARE A ROUTE FROM XT@ TO XT
Thanks "adm" for your kind information of a solution - but ...
... what about al the other GPS-owner with BT on board. 595/590, Navi V and VI and so on. How can we share routs with them out in the wilderness? Does this "email" fidel works together with them? The easiest way an works for most al is the BT-sharing. I will start the the work trying to move Garmin with a cal to the Swedish Garmin Support. If we built up a common demand it may solve the problem.I have used Tread to share routes with XT owners though.
