CN EU 2025.20 NTU
Re: CN EU 2025.20 NTU
Thanks for the alert.
I am used to doing an update then going in to
C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService
and deleting the large file created which I understand from previous posts is superfluous after an update..
However, this time the update has nearly filled my C drive (which I reserve for programs etc.) with 22.3gb on
C:\Users\*****\AppData\Local\Garmin\express\maps
any views about deleting this folder containing 61 large files with no extensions?

Re: CN EU 2025.20 NTU
My travel net book only has ~42 GB of space after Windows is installed, so I understand trying to keep C: clean.
I believe you can delete everything in that maps folder and anything that is necessary will be re-created the next time you run Express. Worst case, you might have to re-install Express for the next update, so you will need available C: space, at least temporarily.
If you need to clear a little more working room on C: and also have another drive you can move the Basecamp maps from C: to D:. I can't find the link, but these instructions used to be on the Garmin site:
To move the map files to an alternate location:
Press the Windows key + R
Type %programdata% and press Enter
Open the Garmin folder
Open the Maps folder
Right-click the desired map to move
Click Cut
Browse to the desired alternate location
Right-click a blank area in the directory
Click Paste
Browse back to the Maps folder on the C: drive (%programdata%\Garmin\Maps)
Right-click a blank area in the directory
Select New
Select Shortcut
Click Browse and browse to the location of the relocated map
Click Next
Click Finish
I simplified the steps a bit for my own use as:
In File Explorer, click the View tab, check the Hidden Items box.
Open C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps
Select the City Navigator folder
Right-click and Cut.
Browse to the desired alternate location
Right-click a blank area in the folder, click Paste
Right-click the map file, select Create Shortcut
Right-click the new shortcut, select Cut
Return to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps (Back button on mouse)
Paste the Shortcut

Add C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps\RMU to the list of garbage left by Garmin. I found over 10GB of old data from the four most recent map updates.

Easier to use JaVaWa's GMTK to move BaseCamp maps should you need to:
