Cardo headset paired as phone or GPS?

Post by Peobody »

I am having to re-pair my Cardo Packtalk Bold headset to my XT. I seem to recall pairing it as a phone and not a GPS because I want the Cardo to work as if it is connected to a phone, which is paired to and passing through the XT (not paired to the Cardo). @jfheath, how did you pair yours? Any suggestions from anyone else?

Pair Cardo Edge with XT1 or 2

This may involve deleting headset from the XT list to force it to re-pair.

Press the phone pairing button on the headset. I rotate the jog wheel to force it to regard the XT as a second phone. Then get the Zumo to search. Headset says

Make sure music or sound from XT plays through the headphones.

Why set headset searching first ? Because the headset searches for longer than the XT
Why pair as phone? it seems logical since all of the phone functions will be transferred to the XT. Ive never tried it as a GPS.
Why as a second phone ? It leaves the first phone available for the actual phone in case you need to set up the Cardo using the app on the phone. I always delete this connection after finishing with the app - on the phone and on the XT.

I may be wrong about choosing phone rather than gps when pairing the XT. I just assumed that since voice has to go from the XT to the headphones and also from mic to the XT then the XT would have to be treated as a phone. But perhaps those channels are set up anyway and the phone and gps settings are more to do with which devices cut out which other devices. For my set up, phone calls always cut out all other sound. So I am happy with that. i think satnav cuts music from the Xt mp3 player - not the volume - it actually pauses it, and resumes from the same point.

I'm sure you've seen my expression of frustration with how voice navigation interrupts intercom communication and then doesn't release it until several seconds after the announcement ended. Does yours to do that?

Hmmm... Rotating the jog wheel on my Packtalk Bold enables pairing as a GPS. I dug out the manual and found that a double-tap on the phone button enables pairing to phone #2. I have re-paired as phone #2 and tested. Incoming phone calls are received but texts are not displayed. The "Text messages" option in Smart Notification is enabled. Display of incoming texts is the most important part of this to me. Anyone have any thoughts on how to get it working? It used to, but I don't know whether that pairing was as phone #1 or as a GPS, nor whether that should make any difference. The phone is an iPhone.

I'm away at moment. Text messages to the XT are controlled by the Drive app I think. You can turn on and off various notifications. If it isn't installed, be careful not to set up the link to the explore database.

I'll get back to you tomorrow. I'm sure I have this documented or videos somewhere.

I found this link which points to a video of mine.

I'm struggling on a tiny phone screen. I have my iPad but it's frozen me out of zumousers and won't let me in again !

Must be the vents or something stupid.

Thanks John (@jfheath ). I never had to look at your video, a clue to the answer was in that discussion. On the iPhone, I went into
Settings > Notifications > Messages. Two options in there were turned off. One was labeled "Time sensitive" under "Always Deliver Immediately" and the other was the radio button for "Notification Center" under "Alerts". I enabled both and a test text from my wife was displayed on the XT. I wish I knew which option fixed it because I would prefer that texts not be in the Notification Center. It's possible that I turned this off at some point without realizing it disabled the transmission of text notifications to the XT. Could this be made more complicated please? :D

I forgot yours was an iPhone. You will have spotted this but for others watching later, the drive app relinquishes control of which notifications are sent to the XT itself. A whole new menu becomes available on the XT with tick boxes to allow / prevent notifications. I had to connect my iPad tonthe XT - pretending to be a phone - in order to see this different menu. I'll post screenshots later.

[EDIT] Not a screenshot but a link to one showing the ipad screen for setting notification permissions.

I managed to log in again. I set my vpn to a different server. I don't know why ? Cached data I guess.

I note that I didn't answer an earlier question about phone/gps pairing.

When I hold the phone pairing button to enter pairing mode, it eventually speaks in my ear..
"Phone Pairing (ie Phone#1)"

If I rotate the jog wheel forward It speaks:
"2nd phone pairing (phone #2)"

If I rotate the jog wheel backwards it speaks:
"GPS pairing"

I can do this for a while in order to hear all of the options. When I leave the jog wheel alone after hearing "2nd phone pairing", it pairs and speaks "2nd phone connected"

I know that I can have the XT and the 2nd phone connected at the same time. I don't know if the limit is two devices or three.
