I'm being prompted to install "Firmware update for Group Ride Radio" on my XT even though I have never connected a group ride radio.
<<<Rant ON>>>
This is absurd to me. Certainly Garmin could detect the existence of a group ride radio built-in or as a separate device and offer this update only to those who might need it.
<<<Rant OFF>>>
Questions rattling around in my brain are: Do I dare install it? If I don't, will it affect future updates?

Re: Firmware update for Group Ride Radio????
My best guess is that it will be installed the next time you put the XT online for any other updates, regardless of what updates are pending. I doubt they will let you selectively skip updates.
Re: Firmware update for Group Ride Radio????
Its right - the Zumo XT is also 'Group Radio capable, even if you never bought or installed the additional hardware. If you want further firmware updates (if they ever come!?), you'll need to install this one. If you believe, that there were no other firmware updates coming, you can leave it alone.
Should maybe work, as you can install updates one by one but beware of two points:
.) If this is a complete firmware update, the chances that you MUST install it when the next map update arrives, are big, and
.) Garmin tends to change more (little) things in an firmware update, which are not declared in the official changes...

It doesn't appear to be based on the Garmin Express estimated install time of 1 minute. I plan on waiting awhile before installing it, hoping for no reports of problems.

Re: Firmware update for Group Ride Radio????
Group Ride has been a feature of the XT2 for a while. But it seems that you don't need a radio to use one aspect of Group Ride. You can see other members of your group on the map - presumably communicated through phone data.
I have yet to try it 'cos no one that I ride with have an XT2. But if it is part of XT1 and it offers the same facility, that might be useful.
I'll install it on the XT1, if I haven't already, and let you know. It's easy enough to roll the system software back to the previous version.
I described how to roll back system software here.

Re: Firmware update for Group Ride Radio????
Ok - I just looked at Express and installed the update for "Group Ride Radio"
But there is nothing relating to Group Ride Radio on my XT screen. That sort of thing happened with the Handlebar Controller. The App didn't show up on the XT2 at all. Until I bought a handlebar controller and connected it for the first time.
On the XT2 though, "Group Ride" has always been there - But not "Group Ride Radio" - so perhaps the XT doesn't offer the group rider positions.

Re: Firmware update for Group Ride Radio????
That is the conclusion I came to. "Group Ride" is different from "Group Ride Radio", and not on the XT. "Group Ride Radio" exists on the XT but is hidden waiting for whatever add-on is needed to make it active.
