Tread is a mess. Is there a web application?

Post by Gelo »

Hello everyone,
I guess that using the Tread application to read the .gpx created in Basecamp, external planners (Kurviger, MRA, etc...) as well as those obtained by colleagues or from the web when imported to Tread there are important differences in the results obtained, you never get the same route although the track is maintained.
I have never understood why the Tread does it so badly and obviously when arriving to the XT2 the route is not the initial one.
The track is always correct but the route always change and is therefore unreliable.
Has anyone solved this problem?
Is there a web application that simulates the Tread? It is tedious to use the application on the mobile because it is very bad and difficult to use.
Thank you,

Not yet. There has been some indication from Garmin that they will have a fix for the route change issues sometime in 2025. I'm not aware of any solution to Tread only running on small screen devices.

If you remove Tread entirely, then routes imported to the XT2 from Basecamp remain stable.

The more user complaints Garmin gets, the higher priority the issue will get.

I route plan using Basecamp and then transfer them to Tread and let it sync with the XT2. I only use way / via points and always monitor the route on my phone / tablet. This works for me as any changes are minor. In some ways I find Tread easy to use as the zooming in / out is easy, but I start with way / via points already in Tread. Using a tablet makes the visibility even better.

I'll guess that Tread is for Android / iPhone OS, just like Basecamp is for Windows / Mac OS and that the market for getting them onto each others platform is limited, and not worth the effort / money for Garmin.

Thank you for your reply,
Hopefully Garmin will fix it but I don't expect anything from them.
Very dissatisfied with their foram of treating customers and products that today are surpassed by others cheaper and with greater implementation on motorcycles such as the use of the BMW wheel.
Wanting to do this with the Garmin is costly and also with poor performance.

My procedure is as follows,
Assuming that the track is always 100% correct in the Tread is what I use but to get the route from the Tread.
I import to Tread ONLY the track and waypoints either made by me in Basecamp, web planner (Kurviger, MRA, etc...) or from a friend.
With the track in the Tread I take the option of “convert route” and on the route I “edit the route” marking the segment (that will be the one delimited by two flags, one to each side) and INSERT point which leaves me placed the waypoint and so on, marking segment (clicking on the route) and inserting points that interest me.
When finishing and from the Tread the route is saved and it is taken to the folder that is estimated.
When connecting the XT2 it will synchronize the track and route and it will be perfect.
That is my solution as long as I don't have a better one without using USB cable.

Interesting! And it seems that you also avoid shaping points as you're inserting previously made points from Basecamp etc.

I think that I might follow a similar idea when creating a route in Tread as I do it from a waypoint that's already there to another already there waypoint, and then move the route to use previously imported waypoints. The track you use makes certain of the waypoints to use, which will be helpful.

Some time ago I used to do the same as you but I can't stand the interface of lines and clutter of Tread.
It is true that since not long ago the imported tracks when they are converted to route from Tread are perfect and that does not change when you edit the route from Tread and its subsequent passage to XT2.
The important thing is to do it “inserting point” with which I mark the waypoints where I want and it is more, I use the Basecamp or Kurviger and I also import these points with which it is easy to find them and on them to insert the point in the Tread and the waypoint is already in the route, if I see that it can create some conflict I move it a little and ready.
What I have not found is the way to edit the inserted points when it gives me some coordinates, that would be definitive.
