Hello all,
I have been transferring my BC created routes for trial on the XY (day trips) and I have quite a few. I have removed some because the XT was starting to look a bit cluttered. This made me wonder how many lists, routes etc, experienced Zumers store in their GPS's (XT, 390 etal...), and where they are stored.
Thank you,
Mikey

Re: Route transfer to XT - how many?
If I'm away for a couple of weeks and have a dozen plus routes then I'll only transfer them to a SD card in the GPSR and import them as necessary, ie a day plus next days.
I'll delete ones that are no longer needed as well to keep it clearer. Using a logic of eg D1, D2, D3 for Day 1, 2 3 etc at the front of the routes name helps keep an easy view of which is in, and which is out. That the routes are on the SD card means you can re-import them if needed.

Same here, all my routes and POI get transferred to the SD card, NOT to internal memory. I use the drag and drop method to the User Memory. I can import as many times as needed and delete when no longer wanted. I also do the "D1, D2, ..., Dn" method so no matter how they are ordered on the card, I can always find exactly which one(s) I want. This D1, D2, ... method also allows me to not fret so much about having them in the correct order all the time. I find I simply don't care anymore.Oop North John wrote: ↑Wed Mar 26, 2025 6:39 am If I'm away for a couple of weeks and have a dozen plus routes then I'll only transfer them to a SD card in the GPSR and import them as necessary, ie a day plus next days.

Re: Route transfer to XT - how many?
I do similar to @Oop North John and @rbentnail. I keep my XT lean and clean. There are 12 local routes that I keep on it. One-off trips get imported from the SD card each evening for the next days ride, deleting the finished day route as part of that process. Once I'm home, I remove all of that trips route and track files from the card. I also use a route naming scheme that identifies the trip, the day number, and the destination for the day.

Re: Route transfer to XT - how many?
how many routes fit on an XT depends on XT internal memory , so what you can do is when on your Basecamp program, highlight your List Folder or your List (where you store your routes), then at the top menu on Basecamp select FILE menu, then select EXPORT... (you're going to export Basecamp files, now it's going to bring up your computer file transfer screen, here is where you either make a new file folder or select a folder on your computer where this Basecamp exported file is going to be stored, you also should give that exported file a new name to identify what it is because it's destination is the SD card on your Zumo device, so once you have done the export basecamp file to a place on your computer, you are done with Basecamp and can end Basecamp, now here is where you put that new file onto your SD card, you can either leave the SD card into your Zumo or take the card out and put it into a card reader, now once you have that SD card, showing up on your computer file explorer screen (either Zumo connected or card reader) copy and paste that new export file from your computer to a new folder on the card, I forget at the top of my memory if that new exported file needs to be within a folder called Garmin or not, i forget, but after you have copy pasted that new file to the card, can disconnect the Zumo or the card reader, done with the computer I mean, then on the Zumo, you'll have your exported file or files in a folder on your SD Card, then on your Zumo here is where you select (i forget because I used to have an XT but gave it away to someone when i was in a fit of mindlessnes, miss that XT but its long gone now to a new home, i am so dumb lol,) ok sorry on your Zumo you select IMPORT for those routes and waypoints to be imported from SD card to Zumo Internal Memory to be used, now here is where I will pass my incomplete knowledge of the XT over to more competant Forum members lol
good luck i hope I have this post correct but don't count on it, I'm not all that bright lol

Re: Route transfer to XT - how many?
Thank you Zumo friends for your practical replies above. Transfer and storage of routes from BC to XT is part of the whole trip planning process that I need to practice and improve upon.
An orderly approach is important for me, particularly when standing astride a motorcycle on the side of a busy road!

Re: Route transfer to XT - how many?
I've never understood why folks go through those extra steps to put a route from Base Camp to the XT SD card. With Base Camp open, it's a simple drag and drop of both routes and waypoints to the SD card. No exporting, no saving to computer, no extra copy & paste. In Base Camp when the XT is plugged into your computer, simply drag the route/waypoint from the list in Base Camp to the User Memory. Re: Route transfer to XT - how many?
I'll tell you my reasoning, because I want to be able to specifically identify the files on the SD card that are associated with specific routes or trips (for me, "route"=ride done in a single day, "trip"=multi-day route). This allows me to surgically remove files from the SD card that I no longer need. I will export from BaseCamp to my local drive, one route at a time, assigning meaningful filenames as they are saved. I them copy those files to the SD card, using a logical file structure (eg: all local routes will be in a folder named "Local", all files associated with a Colorado trip will be in one named "Colorado"). Once I'm done with that trip I cleanup by deleting any associated routes remaining in Trip Planner and Tracks, and the Colorado folder from card. If I modify a local route, I can easily identify which file I need to replace on the card.
I recognize that this requires extra effort, especially doing the exports one route and track at a time, but that provides the most flexibility and file control. That effort is worth it to me. YMMV.

Re: Route transfer to XT - how many?
i put the exported Basecamp route file onto the SD Card because I like to organize them into identified folder names on the card, and I just import then from card to zumo internal memory when I need to use specific routes or waypoints, and then I can remove them from zumo memory when not needed and I still have them on the SD Card if needed again, I also like having the extra storage space that the card provided for storing other custom-created stuff like music

Are you sure Russ's method won't allow you to do this? When I can find a tuit I'll try it myself.twowheelstom wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 3:24 pm i put the exported Basecamp route file onto the SD Card because I like to organize them into identified folder names on the card.
