Not Receiving Text Messages from iPhone

I've searched this issue but have yet to find a solution/suggestion.

I have an iPhone 16, Cardo Edge and of course the XT. I have the phone and Edge paired to the XT and the Garmin Drive app installed with Smart Notifications enabled on the XT and also with the Drive app during the initial configuration. I've ensured that on the iPhone that Notifications are set to Preview Always as well as in the Messages.

All devices show paired on the iPhone and XT. I can make a call, via the Voice Command, on the Edge headset and it's immediately shown on the XT screen. So far so good eh....

When I send a text to my iPhone it's shown on the phone but nothing on the XT. Smart Notifications on the XT are configured to receive text messages.

I've removed all devices from pairing and re-paired everything with no change.

Thoughts?

In the event a reader also uses an Edge with this set up I'd be interested to know how you answer a call without pressing the Green Answer button the the XT incoming call pop up. Cardo voice command of 'Answer' doesn't work. Further, when I do speak to a caller on the phone with this setup the volume drops right off for me and the person on the other end of the call.

Notifications:

With an iphone, the notifications are controlled on the Zumo screen itself - (rather than on the phone, as they are with the Android phones).

I mentioned this in this post here - and produced a couple of screen shots. https://www.zumouserforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2994. I cannot remember in which menu I found them on the XT though. (I don't have an iphone, but I have an iPad and I can fool the XT into thinking that it is a phone in order to get the screenshot !)

Regarding answering call. The android phone has a feature to automatically answer calls when a BT headset is connected. But you have to turn it on. You can also specify the number of seconds to wait before answering. The XT will display a message on screen with yes/no buttons, which you can press, but will answer if you leave it long enough. I can't believe that the iPhone doesn't have this facility.

The Cardo Edge App - which requires a temporary connection to you phone - has the ability to adjust the sensitivity of the microphone, turn it up, allow volume to be turned up to compensate for background noise. These are well worht experimenting with. When I first got an Edge, I was having to shout in order to be heard. These controls in the Cardo App are well worth playing with.

Once you are done, unpair and destroy the BT the connection with the Edge on your phone.

1. I had gone into the Smart Notifications on the XT as you've shown in your link and checked the ones I wanted but that hadn't worked.

2. The iPhone won't answer the call without the Voice Command through the Edge or physically touching the iPhone. At this point I'll rely on touching the button on the XT.

3. I thought I had the mic sensitivity at max but I will check it. It hasn't been a problem with rider/rider comms. This is my third Cardo comms setup and I couldn't be happier with it.

4. Now your last point you mentioned forgetting the pair connection between the iPhone and Edge? How are Voice Commands achieved for music etc without that connection. My media is on the phone.

This is a quote of my solution to the same problem, which evolved from an inquiry I made a few weeks ago about pairing the XT to my Cardo as a phone or a GPS.

"On the iPhone, I went into Settings > Notifications > Messages. Two options in there were turned off. One was labeled "Time sensitive" under "Always Deliver Immediately" and the other was the radio button for "Notification Center" under "Alerts". I enabled both and a test text from my wife was displayed on the XT."

Regarding phone calls, I know that my XT displays incoming calls but I will never place or answer a phone call while riding so I can't help with specifics on that, but it appears that it will work. AFAIK, a tap on the "answer" button on the XT is required to answer a call. My phone is only connected to the XT, not to the Cardo.

Thanks for the post Peabody. I've checked the first 'Timestamp' box you mentioned however there's no Notification Center/Radio Button within the Messages app. I'm on iOS 18.3.2

Do you have your XT paired with the Cardo as 2nd Mobile Phone or GPS?

My XT is paired with my Cardo as a phone.

Nope....my settings mirror yours in that image and I re-paired the Cardo Edge as 2nd mobile to the XT. I have several items checked in Smart Notifications like Texts, Weather etc and I'm not getting anything. All I can get is phone calls in etc, it's as though the Smart Notifications are not set up however they are.

My only other thought is the "Share system notifications" setting in the iPhone Bluetooth options for the device (mine is named "BLE_zūmo XT #3"). Confirm it is on.

Ron,

First, love Death Before Decaf.

Second, and this is only a wild guess from way out in the cheap seats, is Bluetooth on your GS in use and possibly interfering with your Cardo/XT/phone connections? Garmin devices have a long history of being fussy about Bluetooth.

I checked that last night and it is on. I think I'm going to delete the Garmin Drive app again and re-install as it appears all the settings are correct elsewhere and a phone call shows on the XT it's just the smart notifications that aren't showing up.
