Hello,
Long time owner of a 395 and I'm familiar with the differences between these two units. What frustrates me about the 395 is how slow the unit is when recalculation or searching for a POI. Any owners out there who have had both units and are they any faster? Thanks.
Would you consider the 396 or 595 speedy?

I have the 590 and have no issues with speed
Some routes can take a long while to calculate if there is a lot of shaping points but once calculated all is well
If you're looking to upgrade why not just go for the XT?

Tbh, the 396 is speedy... compared to prior models it’s night and day. I haven’t used a faster gps unit, yet.

No, I do not. I own the 396. If I am in a urban or suburban area and miss a turn, it can’t recalculate fast enough for me to catch the next turn, si I end up going straight till it catches up or the next turn far enough ahead.
I honestly don’t get the popularity of these units. They are slow, low resolution, hard to use even when standing still, forget most features while riding since they require 3-4 clicks at least, like route avoidance. If I widen the screen area I lose all road identification. It doesn’t show town names, it gives the center of a township which is useless for navigation. It gives only the local street names when I need the hwy number, when looking for POI like gas stations the list is incomplete, often it will give me a gas station a mile away when I see one right across the road... 1990s tech at best, my phone is faster and more reliable.
Did I get an old unit packaged as new from amazon? I just don’t get it.

I owned a 590 buut never a 396. I do not consider the 590 fast. XT is a lot better
