XT Route - Behaviour when Ignoring a Shaping Point (Imported Route)
This diagram below is used for a number of pages in this section. It shows a planned route with 7 route points: Vias at 01, 03, 06 and 07; Shaping Points at 02, 04 and 05. The start of the video is with the bike roughly at the position of the motorbike on the map.
The magenta line showns the route that has been loaded into the Zumo. The green shadow line is the route that I will be taking - so not visiting point 02, 04 and 06. The videos show what happens when I ignore the instructions to visit the route point. The behaviour is different depending on the circumstances.

So for this example I am about to enter the roundabout. The satnav wants me to take the 2nd exit in order to take me to the Shaping Point at 04. But I take the third exit to head east (clockwise, UK roundabout) - as indicated by the green hi-light.
Imported Route
This route is 'Imported' (as opposed to saved). This means that it has been created using some route planning software on a smartphone, or a tablet - OR on a caomputer using programs such as Basecamp, MyRouteApp, Kurviger, .......etc, etc. These routes have to be transferred to the XT - ie saved in either Internal Storage or and SD Card which is inserted inot the memory card slot on the XT. The XT's Trip Planner App has to be used to import it into the XT's main memory.
These routes can be converted to behave as if they were create as 'Saved' - using just the XT's Trip Planner App. Details on how to convert an Imported Route into a Saved Route are provided on P106.
At some point earlier in the route I pressed 'Skip' - because that seems to trigger certain behaviours, and this keeps this route test consistent with the previous test.
The Video - sequence of events.

The Video - sequence of events.
- Start: The opening screen shows the preview map on The Zumo. Note that the route takes the second exit at the roundabout and passes through Addingham. The blue shaping point is in place. The video starts just as I am about to enter the roundabout.
- After the Roundabout (0:15) I have ignored the second exit and I have left the roundabout at the third exit.
At this point the route is immediately recalculated along the road that I am currently riding.
- Yellow Arrow(0:19) I have drawn a yellow arrow to indicate the approximate location of the Shaping Point at Addingham. It is no longer there. The XT has removed it.
The blue shaping point ahead at the top of the screen is the shaping point that is plotted at 05. The route is now heading straight for that point and has completely altered this section of the original route.
- Summary In this situation, if I choose to miss Addingham and not visit the shaping point (a cafe), then what the XT does is really helpful. I've ignored its instruction to take me to the cafe, thereofre I don't want to go there. So lets look ahead and find the closest point on the original route. And it heads for that - at the road junction.
In another sitaution, this could be disastrous. You put the shaping point there - because you wanted tht e route to pass through that point. The only reason that you don't take the second exit is becasue there are road works. But the stanav decides you don't want to go there, removes the route point and now you have no way of finding it.
I'm not taking sides on this. I'm just reporting on how the XT behaves in different circumstances.
