SD Card

Post by burtsr »

MY XT shows 28+ gig or memory. I put in a 64g SD card but the unit does not recognize it. I tried a 8g with the same results.

How do you get the gps to recognize the card?

thanks

SD cards are typically formatted as exFAT. Garmin devices only recognize FAT32 formatted card. If your card is exFAT formatted then it will need to be reformatted as FAT32. Note that Windows FAT32 formatting has a maximum size of 32 GB. You will need to use a third party formatting tool to format it to its full 64GB capability. I used AOMEI Partition Assistant (free version).

i have an XT with 64gb card installed, how do you check/verify on the XT that there's a card installed and that it's recognized?

I had a 16g card that I did a long format on and now it shows. Guess it didn't like the quick format.

Thanks for the help! Much appreciated.

That is a good question. I would like to know this as well. It is reassuring to see the card in a file explorer and via BaseCamp but to not be able to see anything about it on the XT itself is weird. I feel like I'm missing something.

Why did you install the card?

Try to use the card for the purpose you installed it.

Add a few routes, a few mp3 files.

If the routes are available for import, if the music plays, it was recognized.

I have an XT2 and my device does not recognize the card. I have a 256GB card formatted as FAT32. I tried adding GPX and MP3 directories and nothing seems to get the card recognized. I know it's not recognized because if I try to download the Bird's Eye view maps, I cannot configure my XT2 to use the SD card for storage. There's nothing in the Users Manual other than it supports up to 256GB and it has to be formatted to FAT32. Is there something else that needs to reside on the SD card? Or, some kind of naming convention? (Tried to name the SD card Zumo XT2)

I installed the card just because. I don't need it for anything at the moment, but who knows what the future may bring. I have over 3,000 mp3 files I may load.
